I am rebuilding my motor 97 2.2 OHV i wanna but some stage II cams from importperfamceparts.net and do the piston swap from the ln2 2.2 to bump up compression to work well with the stage II cam...is this a good start for all motor..???
you wanna swap pistons from an ln2 2.2 you realize your engine is an ln2 2.2 right
JBO since July 30, 2001
I think he wants to put the newer 2200 pistons in a 2.2.
- Your not-so-local, untrained, uncertified, backyard mechanic. But my @!#$ runs
yes the newer 2200 pistons..
rockers and some porting of the head would be on my list....oh wait, they are, lol
rocker arms from a 3400 v6?? im on a budget haha..
this is interesting. i wanna build mine some possibly or eco swap so i would like this info too thanks:-)
I got a 02' 2.2L Sunfire and was wondering how i can get more horsepower out of it by not swapping it out... I currently have a catless exhaust with no header yet, Msd Coils/Wires, WAI.. Any suggestions?
jet chip? better clutch. cam. not much for the motor which sucks cause i like the motor alot
The same amount of money, you can swap in a 3400 and have room to play later on down the road. The 2.2L's have had bottom ends to begin with, so you need more than the top end.
ok thanks, ill look into it
this is about the 2.2 ohv rebuild not swapping
For starters OP the LN2 has 1 cam, and it's in the block. It's not exactly an easy task to swap it out either. When I built my LN2, I did it on an engine stand. You will at minimum need to pull the head, to pull the lifters out, then drop the front (pass side) of engine down to be able to slide the cam out through the pass side wheel well... but most of us that get to the point of swapping out a cam on an LN2, just take the whole thing out. Then again if you are doing pistons too, and pulling apart the engine that much, you are probably intending to pull the engine out anyways.
If you are swapping the cam however, I would recommend upgrading the lifters while you are down there, and at a minimum the valve springs. I left stock rockers in mine, it's nice how they self-adjust, and my cam has so much lift on it, I'd have probably bound up my valve springs with anymore lift from rockers as well. So basically you can leave ur stock rockers but at a minimum I would change valvesprings, but if I was doing that I'd also do a valve job with stainless valves/locks/retainers... and port out the head.
I had a pretty powerful LN2 when it was in it's prime, build list in my registry, although it's back to n/a so none of my turbo components are listed.
My friend has a REbuilt head hes gonna sell me and i was wondering if it will be good to swap out mine cause nothins been changed every since 2002.. So would it be worth it? hes sellin it to me for $40..
Dont build the LN2 its not worth it. Do the 3400 swap or the 3800SC swap.
3400 SWAP DONE. 187WHP 212TQ (14.2 @100MPH NA) 240WHP 310TQ (N2O)
Exactly what would i need from the other car??
