Man is this little engine worn the hell out! 174,000 plus miles on stock block and tranny and now I'm getting a little bit of a wrist pin sound. I'm in between the eco swap and just rebuilding my stocker. Not sure yet what to do. You guys want to weigh in on this??
Mine has 100K more than you, and I don't think it's too tired. Drive it til it blows, then do the swap.
2000 Ford F-250 7.3 Powerstroke 4x4 - Not stock
1973 16' Tahiti Speedboat
1983 200 HP Mercury BlackMax
1997 Chevy Cavalier with 275K miles
It's a 2.2. Not a 2200.
Curious....if they put the 2.2 into the s-10's then why can't we put the 4.3 in the cavys!!!!!!
Hmmmmm.....leaves much to think about!
You could put a 4.3 in a cavy but whats the point? Too much custom work a 3400 or 3800 is a better option
I just don't want to do any major wiring to the dash so I can pull a 4.3 from a 97 with the ecu and harness and fab up the exhaust. Maybe I'm just lost so who knows. I thought about doing the other swaps but finding a donar car is a pain in the ass out here. I found out for 1500 bucks I can just get a rebuilt 2.2 and be done with it.
Ok Nick you win. That looks good in there but what all would I need? I'm going to have a motorcycle to ride while I'm working on my car but I need the list of the items, parts, and what have you in order to do the swap. I looked and looked on here but the info for a 97 doesn't have much detail to it. Help me out bro!
I'm not sure. TBH since you're just starting out, I'd maybe try a 3400 N/A swap. It's pretty much just a drop in swap with the exception of 1 mount. All you'll need to do is change the BCM/PCM. Wiring wise you can keep most of your factory wiring, but you'll need to splice some wires and use adapters on others. There are a lot of things you wont need to change like all the plugs/wires and hoses for the throttle body and stuff. Quite a few sensors and stuff like that are tranferable from the 2.2 to the 3400.

3.4 quad cam from a Grand Prix? Which mount would I need to change and could I keep my stock tranny as well?
3.4 DOHC is garbage and not worth your time when we say 3400 we mean get a 3400 not the 3.4DOHC. if you have a 95-97 car which i susperct you do as you said you have a 2.2 not the 2200 then you have mor issues for a swap then nick said
you have to piggy back your PCM (BCM you car doesn't have one) if you don't piggy back the PCM you will only have speed and fuel level and every idiot light is on
you can also switch to an automoeter cluster (kinda expensive)
or you can switch the dash harness and headlight harness over to an 00+ and install an 00+ BCM then wire the engine bay as an 03 impala and have an 03 impala program in the PCM, this option allows you to have 00+ gauges and everything will work. you would also have to swap out your fuel tank for an 00+ aswell
if your planning a swap your gonna have alot of work on your hands read the 3800 swap info aswell as the sticky at the top of the 3rd gen section about V6 swaps

174,000 is low mileage on a LN2
, now if you plan on keeping the car for a while I'd say plan ahead. Start getting things in order now and have a motor ready, whether it be a Eco, 3400, or even a LN2 considering how cheap one can be had. Cut down on the down time that way also.
I made up my mind and just going to rebuild my stock enging. Yes it is a 97 2.2 with a 3-speed. The problem and reason why I want to swap or rebuild the engine is because one of the wrist pin boses is starting to make sound. I want a cluster with a built in tach but not sure how hard it is.
