I have searched. But my question is a little different..

Is the block, not internals the same between the 97 2.2 and the 98 2200?

If so I should be able to build the 2.2 block with the 2200 pistons, crank, cam, etc and put my 2200 head on right?

different IIRC. . . oil passages and coolant are a little off I believe.

I wanted to this before but i heard it was not possible, ive had 2 mechanics also tell me this, so if it gets done I would definitely love to see that.

Also I forgot to add that the combustion chamber on a 2200 is heart shaped as opposed to the round 2.2

This should help: Rebuilding the Chevy 2.2L Engine By Doug Anderson

I know it only list up to the '99 model year, but later remained the same, save for some of the sensors used on the flex fuel and CNG motors.
