what's the deal?
the 3900 is just a real big 60* V6
same trans bolt pattern, same rules as other 60* swaps (for the most part)
how come nobody has done this yet?

so what?
i've seen some crazy wiring done for 3400/3500 swaps
why is nobody touching the 3900?
just use the native PCM and wire it in to the J-car...?
Doesnt the phrase "electrical nightmare" get brought up everytime someone brings up swapping to any VVT/VCT engine in these cars? Haha. I mean its do-able You just probably dont hear anything about it because most people here can't wire in gauges let alone graft an entire functioning VCT system into a J-body.
It really wouldnt be a huge issue unless the GM VCT system requires transmission input to function properly like their DoD does.
On a side note its 4am and I havent been to bed yet so I may be completely off too. Haha.
I need to look into it more because I have a car I'm thinking about trying it on.
it seems simple to me... take the engine, the PCM and the wiring harness for it. and put it into the car. disable some stuff with HPT, adjust the pulses per mile for the speedo, and bam you're done.
the only thing up in the air would be gauges. but aftermarket gauges or something that plugs into the OBD2 port would seem fine to me.
the 3900 PCM would be running the show, so just run the diag wires from the engine harness to the OBD2 connector, hook up some OBD2 gauges and bam. you're set.
...can-bus, whatever.
I would already have done it if I had the money. I actually plan to do this one day.

So the squirrel will live! I hope to see this actually happen. If anyone can figure out the wiring you are the one to do it Pj.
id like to know as well because anything ive driven including heavy ass SUV's and minivans equipped with said 3900 hauled ass.
M45/OS crank/2.4 snout. It's nice to be injected but I love being blown!
I've considered it, but it won't mount as easy as a non-VVT 60° V6 (using the frame rail mount) because of the VVT module. If I'm going to do something that requires more fab, I'm going to do a DOHC motor.
Also, I'm not sure if there are any different dimensions for the transmission mount. Remember that this engine uses a dual mass flywheel with the F40. The difference may be entirely in the transaxle, but I've never checked it out.
i looked at it briefly and its not worth the time the wiring isn't that bad its more then the rest but can be done its more the fact the engine size. the engine is much larger then the 3500 and even the 3.6 in the acaidas. the me the 3.6L has more potential then a 3900 and would make an even better swap my offer still stands for the 3.6 swap for those that i have talked to
JBO since July 30, 2001
I've given serious consideration to the 3.6 after doing some research, but major life changes over the last 10 months have forced me to downsize my plans and just "finish" my car with the drivetrain I have.
If I did it, I'd use the MS3x on it. I wouldn't bother with the factory computer at all. I would recommend the same for the 3900 if someone were to try it.
ok, forget the 3900.

wtf is the transmission bolt pattern for it?

Use the F40 out of a Saab Aero with the 2.8. Same pattern.
I would highly advise against even thinking about this swap. My dad had a G6 GTP with the 3.9L and it broke a valve spring destroyed the motor. Also These engines are notorious for head gasket problems and block cracking problems. We got a junkyard replacement engine (which one with 50K on it was $1000 even with my discount) and either the head gasket was bad or the block was cracked, it pressurized the cooling system like right now on startup so I had to change it again. I hate these 3.9L engines.
3400 SWAP DONE. 187WHP 212TQ (14.2 @100MPH NA) 240WHP 310TQ (N2O)
I've thought about this swap. I own a 3900 f40 manual G6 GTP, strong engine but no aftermarket support for mods. Basically the engine would have to mount similar to a 3800 and no telling what hell the wiring would be and you would definately need a donor car. It could absolutely be done but would cost you..
