I'm having some fan issues on my new to me 98 cavalier 2.2 ohv. I stumbled across a 99 cavalier with a 2.2 ohv automatic just like mine and picked up the ecm for 20 dollars. Since they have the same engine and transmission can I get away with plugging the 99 computer in without taking it to gm to have the vin and mileage flashed?

I believe your 98 mileage is stored in the cluster.
You can swap ecu, but will require a they lock relearn.
