Deck Installation Help Please
Tuesday, January 24, 2006 12:29 PM
I just bought a 1999 Sunfire Gt. The dumb dumb that owned it before cut this wiring harness connecting to the factory deck. So now I have to splice the wires together. Does anyone know any website where I can see the wiring diagram? I used to go to www.installdr.com but now it asks for a username and password. Thanks.

If its like a cavy then your screwed. or well thats what the dude at the electronics shop told me. The easiest thing to do is run a constant hot wire from your cig lighter then run a fused switched wire from you fuse block then run all new wire from your radio to all the speakers. this takes alot of freakin time. but thats the price you gatta pay with the data link stero system.

wtf are you talking about??
i cut the harness off my cavy b.c i wasnt gonna pay wally world $50 for the harness that keeps my chimes that i didnt want
soo..... i just chopped it right off
wired everything straight to the new deck, search you can find the wire colors and the ones on the deck should be labeled
all i did was run the power from a fuse in the block thats hot in run/on
not that hard, but a lil more time consuming than using a harness

Data link?? You asked the wrong person, because they didn't know what they were talking about.

I'm not sure of the colors, try searching for color codes, I know it's been posted a lot. If you have a multimeter and a battery, you can figure out which wires do what on your own.

I know which colour is what on my deck, I don't know which colour means what on the harness. and for some reason, I can't get on www.installdr.com They had everything labeled and pictures to show.

Since you have a 99 Sunfire, the following colors should help you out.

Power & ground:
Orange - Battery Positive Voltage (constant)
Red - Battery Positive Voltage (switched) Note: not found in 2000+ radio harness
Black - Ground

Speaker outputs from radio:
Tan - Left Front Speaker Output (+)
Gray - Left Front Speaker Output (-)
Light Green - Right Front Speaker Output (+)
Dark green - Right Front Speaker Output (-)

Brown - Left Rear Speaker Output (+)
Yellow - Left Rear Speaker Output (-)
Dark Blue - Right Rear Speaker Output (+)
Light Blue - Right Rear Speaker Output (-)

You do not have to worry about the chimes. You do not have a Class II system in your car. To give some credit, I found the colors in the FAQ area of the JBO Library.
