tach install
Wednesday, January 25, 2006 8:12 PM
I have a 96 coupe with a 2.2. I want to install a tach, or a cluster with a tach from a 95-98 cavalier. Is this possible with dis? Will the factory-style guages with the tach work in my car? Odometer dosen't matter because my car has an ass-load of miles on it anyway, just want the guages to work right. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

This has been asked before. I do believe you can do a swap of the instrument cluster from a 95 - 98 with tach. No problems. Correct me if I am wrong. It's late!!

ummm. no not really. when you race with an auto you dont just put it in drive and go. you have to select the gear. okay. so dont go and get smart. cause it just shows your lack of knowingness

Im in the same boat here. Just because we have automatics doesnt mean we wouldnt want a tach cluster or even an aftermarket one. Ive seen Civics w/o Turbo's with turbo timers so? And really if your not going to help, get off the thread N8ball. Besides, its also a cosmetic issue, maybe were going for a tach to look good so its not your place to question why we would want it. Ill post later for those that want to know if i find anything out.

You're confusing a manual with an automatic.

Auto = Drive, unless you're driving down a hill or in some sort of towing situation where you need a lower gear.

The transmission was not designed to be "shifted" all the time. This is what kills automatic transmissions over a shorter period of time.

why wouldn't you just put it in gear and go? thats what automatics do, they shift for you. If anything you'd probably be slower shifting the gears yourself, and its definitely not good for the transmission, but what do we know right?
