Ok, i know what RMS power is, and max power, duh!
But im looking for a new amp for my New car, and some of the amps only have Dynamic power ratings.
Whats dynamic power?
And how does it differ from RMS?
i believe dynamic is the same as max power. is it an mtx amp
Just im need an amp for (2) 250watt RMS subs, 1000 watt peak each.
i thought dynamic was rms?

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.
LOL
Dynamic power is the RMS power the amp puts out with the vehicle running (ie: at 14.4V rather than 12V). Alot of companies (many considered rather high-end and bragged about often in this forum) rate their gear at 14.4V to make more money from their products. I personally hate that companies do this, as 14.4V is a very-best-case-scenario when it comes to car audio, especially in vehicles with stock electrical systems.
The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.
ok i was backwards good looking out
if the amps also have MAX power stamped on them here is how to easily convert.
RMS = MAX POWER *.707
if you multiply the MAX Power rating by .707, you will be given your RMS power.
do a little further research, everything should be labeled in MAX power is someform of another.
to calculat MAX power if DYNAMIC POWER really is 14,4V....
take the dynamic, lets say 144 Watts for example
dived 144WATTS by 14.4 V
144W / 14.4V = 10AMPS
now that you have the amount of current the AMP draws, times that by 12V for a normal DC car battery.
10A * 12V = 120WATTS
120Watts is what the AMP's MAX power will be at 12V
to calculate RMS.... multiply by .707
120W * .707 = 84.84W
so the RMS power of the AMP is just under 85Watts
any question on stuff like this, lemme know. im an electrical engineering student
Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!
Smart ass, electrical guys. My room mate is one one of you guys. I'm actually a mech guy, but nice post. Makes sense.
