Budget System..
Saturday, January 28, 2006 9:15 PM
Hey guys.. im gonna pick up a CRX Si I got for a really good deal here in a couple days for my DD.. and as my DD I would like a system in it.

I am looking for mostly Sub/Amp/Box combos and would like to spend roughly 500 total.. I dont need anything too fancy.. Since its a tiny ass car thats not only a small 2 seater, but also its a hatchback.. I am gonna go with

Depending on the RMS of the sub I may go something like 3 10" W0s 2 12" Type Rs or even 1 15" Kicker L5/7 and a sub amp big enough to make the sub sound good.. I want something that hits really hard..should be too hard to do in this car and also hits all the notes and is tight bass.. I listen to a lot of rap AND metal

I am not really have my heart set on anything except that for the budget is 500 and less is better..

I have been looking at a single RE XXX, Sound Splinter RL-P, or an Avalanche, or really anything inexpensive and good.. its a beater I dont care about recognition or brand name really.. just would like to mix and match something nice.. I found an Orion 1500D referb on IKEsound for an awesome price so thats a 1200w Amp for less than 200.. so if that amp is good then I guess just sub/ box...

I dont know.. but I guess post your budget system Ideas

Best idea gets a cookie

It won't take much to make bass in the CRX. One of my buddies had a 91 CRX back in the early 90's. We put a higher model Kenwood CD head, Kenwood speakers in the doors and rear spots, and a four channel Kenwood amp to power the four speakers. For fun, we would take my 10" Kicker Solobaric out of my car, disconnect the rear speakers, and run it off the two rear channels of the amp. Decent and solid output from the sub. Not a competition winner, but a good daily driver.

IMO, find some kickpanels to get some front stage. With the cabin gain from the CRX's shape, subs will perform with less power, so you can put more $ to power the fronts with more amplification.

Its funny you say that Kenwood stuff because im going with an Excelon X889 HU... not to sure what to do about the 4" in the doors and the 6.5" in the sides.. I would like to do some components for the front stage.. but its a daily beater, and I just want to get something to sound alright and im not worried too much about soundstage.. thats what the Cavalier is for

i would say check out ikesound.com get two 12" type Rs and a directed 1500d to drive them. Shouldnt be more then $500 with a box and wires and that will fricking pound. Just make a nice big ported box and omg it will be pure sex.

LOL.. I was actually at Ikesound looking at the same setup.. I dont know how to make a box though? I mean.. dimension wise.. I made a box for the W7 in the cavy but it was tuned way to high and sounded like ass..

I found an amp.. this is the amp im going with..

http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/2167

still looking for a sub though.. Im not sure if I want a couple 10s, 12,s, or a 15" sub.. I am into metal and rap like I said.. so I want it tight but I want it to feel it when it hits in the CRX.. shouldnt be hard..

Anyone have a good design for a hatch ? I dont know where the best angle to fire would be or anything like that.. cant find much in the way of prefabs and not good enough at it to make my own.. but I could if I had like plans for it or something

that amp would be perfict for 2 10" or 12" re se sub's. face the sub's up and port back in a crx. if you look at termpro.com most of the cars in street class's are crx's since they are so easy to get loud.

i can get ya pic's of a box that the street A champ is runnin (154.3 on the new term lab)but it would sound like $hit for everyday use. just get 2 10" re se's face the sub's up and the port back and use auro port's tune the box around 35hz and your blow your mind trust me.

its not hard to make a box i can find a diagram for a crx box.

Cool.. If I an actual diagram I would love to do something like that instead of paying for a TCAB box... im sure its a good box.. and im getting one for the cavy.. but id like to just make the CRX sound good since its a DD.

I listen to everything... from rap/metal/alt/very little country... but I dont want a one note wonder.. I would like some really good SQ ..

If you can get me that diagram that would be awesome... I am gonna run that amp, and I will look into the 12 SE' s.. I dont have prices on them yet.. so we will see.. I have 300 left out of the 250 for 2 subs after the amp to have it shipped.. so we will see..

Thanks

Prolly not SE's.. unless you cant find a good online retailer selling them.. I cant find them anywhere.. if I did they are prolly more than 100 a piece...

I was thinking Type-R or L5s if I was gonna do 2 subs because I can get them pretty cheap.. anything I can find for 100ish approx per sub or 200 for a sub if im just gonna run one

Im open to suggestions as long as its in that range.. keep in mind its a beater.. im mostly getting that 1200w amp because its less than 200 so its a hell of a deal.. I want to just tint it and make it sound good.. not nessasarily loud.. but flexing the hatch is a plus

i would suggest to do it properly....

learn how to build everything to sound good together.

all it takes is a very goo cross over network turn a stereo into a system.

just slapping a sub in a box and feeding it a @!#$ load of power is a waste of money.

i have spent less than $250CDN on my system, but it has been tuned properly.

no offence, but some of the people on here don't really know what good sound is from what ive read on here. seems like some people just care about shoving alot of sub in a big box with a monster amp.

i was at a stereo comp one day a few summers ago and there was this chick who pulled up in a volks jetta, popped the trunk to show off here 2 W7's. she only registerd like a 130db reading or so.

be smart with how you spend your money and it will sound good no matter what you put in it.

ps... if i sound bitter, ive been working on a god damn dodge all weekend!

Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!

Sounds like a plan.. what model are they? I am amping them so just wanna more sure they will be sufficient.. I think I am gonna build an SQL car with it..

I can pick up those MB Quartz from you.. I guess I should buy a matching pair of 6.5" for them also..

Dont know about 4 ch. amp.

Orion 1200D for sub amp.. and not positive on subs yet..

same with HU

As far as making a box goes... I did find that apparently there is a CRX BOX that is designed to be good for this type of application..the best info I could get is

the crx box is 28x28x14 with 4 4inch aero ports 12 inchs long, and the ports need to have at least 12 inchs or more space from the rear of the car... also the subs are on top of this box above the ports...

I dont really know how that breaks down as far as looks or how to figure really dimensions aside for I know the dimensions of the box.. not sure if thats for 2 12s or what either.. but I guess im getting closer.. I am like I said on a budget but I came across a HU for 150 bucks that was great for what it is... NEW HU

I found front and rear speakers and I have an Alpine V12 Expert 4ch amp that was in the Cavalier.. so I will use it.. and found a headunit.. so I guess its down to sub amp and subs... Im pretty sure it will be the Orion 1500D.. still not sure on subs though.. gonna steer clear of Type Rs.. or alpine in general since the Cavalier is ALLLLL Alpine.. need some variety

Decided on a sub/amp combo...

I am going with a Directed 1500D

powering (2) Dual 4 ohm - 10" Ascendent Audio Arsenal subwoofers...

So I should be good around 1ohm for 700 per sub ?

Sound like a good combo ?
