well wut im really asking is, do the square subs sound so bad that they should onlybe used for SPL?

The L5's and L7 really arent a SQ based sub. They are basically just to get loud (although some people will be in shortly to disagree).

I think L5 and L7 are only good for ported enclosures but thats just my opinion. I went from a L7 ported to a CompVR 15 in a sealed enclosure and it sounds sooo much deeper and powerful. IDK about the SQ versus the Spl stuff. I did hit 135 when i had the SPL tested with the L7 though. I wonder if the 15 would get close to that. I think so. But im no expert.

you will get decent sq out of them. if you are wanting to compete in sound quality events you may be at a slight disadvantage but i wouldnt worry about it to much unless you plan on competing, and if you say you just wnt a little sq, then obviously you dont plan on completing.

yea def no competing lol

i just want a nice clean install that sounds deep and loud with out being obnoxiously distored as far as sound quality goes

i am going kicker for sure..

just cant decide which sub (saled enclosure)

i have a KX600.1 to push it or them

i loved my comp VRs but now i blew one and cant decide if i wanna buy 2 new models or a L7/5 i cant find a replacment older model anywhere, and worse.. i need it in two ohm

I would just go with an L5. I have one and I LOVE it. I don't even listen to rap and at low volumes it sounds great. If you really want round, go with the new COmp VX at 750watts RMS.

sonys subs surpised me... loud and deep while amazingly clear in sealed boxes. just sayin it may be a happy medium

The only subs Ive owned that were cleaner than my L7s were my Infinity Perfect's, which is a given. I am extremely happy with the SQ and the SPL of them. There is honestly no reason why a square sub would be any more distorted than a circle one, other than that its pushing more air, (as a bigger circle sub would). It all depends on the quality of the subs, and the L7's and L5's have improved GREATLY over the past few models.

was down at the dealer and was listening to l5's and l7's versus vr's and alpine x's all of the same size 12" the l5's and l7's are grainier but i have a good ear for that still, round definately is a cleaner sub but square is definately louder, i havent heard the new vx's yet but they use the same motors as the l7's so they should pound almost as good as the l7's
impo

i really don't think the SHAPE has much to do...might just be the fact that the l5/7's sound @!#$ty, but not because of the shape of the cones.

is there anyone else that has a square sub? and if they dont why? maybe because they sound bad because of the shape? think of a round object and a square object dropped in water, which one projects the most even, the round, which one moves the most water the square, now air is a fluid, works on the same principal as water,..

just my thoughs though,.....

I always thought sound waves were rounded, and that a square shaped cone could not reproduce the sound as good. Square are def. loud, but do not sound as good as round to me. MY OPINION

Sound waves are definitely round. If that wasn't the case, every single speaker on the market would be square.

who cares about sound waves being round, he just wants to know if L7's and L5's have good sq which they dont but if you want insane bass then thats the subs for you

im putting two of the old round l7's 15" in my car...had them rebuilt and i think they sound way better than any of the square ones........and if you really want my opinion go with memphis.

Re: square subs vs round subs

i think it really depends on the music you listen to. rap and R+B dont really have much SQ in the bass department to begin with so i think an L7 or L5 is good cause all you really want is some pounding bass with some deep notes. whereas other types of music call for tighter and punchier bass with higher SQ and something less loud and more SQ oriented might fit your bill

i personally listen to alot of rap, hiphop, R+B, and reggaeton. so when i had 2 15" L7's in my car(borrowed them for a week to test em out before i buy), i loved them. to each his own.

Do you mean SOLOBARIC? L7 and L5's are all square. Origianl SOLOBARIC subs were round.

The old solobarics handled like 450 watts max for the 10 and i want to say 500 for the 12. I think the kicker comp vr's replaced the round solo baric.
