alright, I've been lookin at a Pyramid 2000w 2ch amp for $80 on ikesound.com, but I remember the guy from MJ audio said that Pyramid isnt that great of a company. So, to be safe, I want the actual equipment that puts out what they rate it at, none of this garbage like what sony does (their "600w" amp is rated at 200w x 2?)
Kenwood, Audiobahn, JL Audio, MA Audio, Alpine, etc. are all brands I'm pretty sure are rated at what they really are.
i think that sony one might be 200x2 seperate but it's prolly bridgeable to 600w...maybe idno...most brands dont rate their stuff at what it actually puts out...they label it "1000watt class d" but it puts out 600 constantly..

rockford puts a sheet in with there amps telling u what they actually push out at normal, my 600 watt amp actually pushes 615 accourding to the sheet
Rockford also rates their amplifiers (or used to) at 14V, which is the absolute best-case scenario for a car. With large sub amps and stock alt/ no extra batteries, most people will never see those voltages, and never get their rated power. At 12V, those numbers would be much, much less.
Don't get me wrong - I don't hate RF (not as much as PG anyway), but it p!sses me off to no end seeing companies market their amps at 13.8-14.4V just so they can pad their power #s and sell their gear for more money.

There are dozens of brands out there that are much better than Rockford that still rate their gear at 12V (but which put out much more at higher voltages). Mmats, is one of them. Linear power, US Amps, PPI Powerclass amps (not the crap they make now) are others that my friends and I have personally ran in our cars. Orion used to rate their stuff at 12V (as did RF WAY back in the day), but they quit rating amps at 12V in favour of selling weaker amps that were "rated" higher just to increase profit.
Like I said - I'm not bashing RF. It just p!sses me off to see people paying big money for their "monsterous" 1000wrms amp that really only puts out 600wrms at 12V. For example - I used to have a Phoenix Gold XS2300 that was "rated" at 75x2 or 300wrmsx1 at 4 ohm. Just like Blazin's RF amp, my PG amp put 35 wrms more than it was rated. That's great, until you find out that the amp only put out 25x2rms at 4 ohms with 12V input. I paid $400Cdn for an amp that put out less than 100wrms at 12V - I could have bought WAY, WAY more power for my $$ had I pulled my head out of my arse and looked past the Phoenix Gold brand name when I was shopping around. Dynamic power is misleading, because not all charging systems will give you the numbers that the companies sell you.

My MA Audio amp is rated at 12 volt

you have to check around 90% of the time it says on there website what volt's it was at.
i know Hifonics rates there lower line amps at 14 volts but the XX amp's put out there power at 12 volts. the amp im about to get was tested in a car on a 12 volt set up with one battery stock alternator and put out 4013 watts at 1 ohm. (XX-Colossus)
dei/ppl rates there amps at 14.4
orion does 13.8
jbl does it at 14.4 but its regulated
visonik does 18 volt's (j/k)
just do the smart thing before you spend the cash on a amp look into it a little first, i know orion is rated at 13.8 but does more the same as hifonics XX line
If your looking for a decent cheep amp check out the Baja series by Profile. Yes they are a lower end company and the subs and speakers suck but i was surprised by there amps. I have used Alpine V12, Polk Momo, JL slash, Infinity and other brands of amps and i would honestly say there almost in there leauge. Im running 2 1040s and i like them alot. Great amps for the money.

Oh yeah they are rated at 14.4v so yea there alittle over rated since your gonna run at about 13.1v-13.4 volts.

whats wrong with rating amps that high? unless the reading on my cap is incorrect, i see any where between 14.7-15.3 volts depending if i'm crusing or standing stil. If thats the case, then my amp is pushing more than 1000 watts, right?
JL amps push the same amount of power betweeen 11 to 14.5 volts and 1.5 to 4ohms. Can't beat the flexibility in that.

All depends on the amp. Some amps put out x amount of watts, regardless of the voltage.
Stay away from Phoenix Gold, their stuff is absolute garbage. We even dropped their line at our store.
An excellent brand is Concept. Thats what we run in our show cars. They handle all kinds of abuse and under rate their numbers.

Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. This applies to both external amplifiers and the amplifiers within in-dash receivers.

I agree. For some reason, I just love JL Audio. I know that their prices are somewhat inflated for a similiar quality product, and you can get other brands that outperfrom them for SPL, but as far as SQ goes, JL is awesome. The reliability is good too. I am probably somewhat biased beacuse I haven't tried a whole lot of other brands, but I simply haven't had the need to. A couple of my buddies have Eclipse, Pioneer Premier, Kenwood, and Alpine subs, but the sound quality just isn't as good as my JL's.
