XM Roof Antenna Removal
Saturday, March 04, 2006 8:23 AM
I have XM Radio in my Cavi, but I don't have a subscription and dont want one so the antenna is useless and ugly. How exactly is this thing attached to my roof? And any idea how big the hole beneath is? I think I am gonna take it to a body shop and see what they say, but any suggestions would be great. Pics would be great also if anybody has any. Thanks

I would say just leave it. Cuz there is a 1/2 hole underneath it and you would have to get that filled and then repaint the whole roof and pillars. Probably gonna cost around $300-500 depending on the shop.

Take that money that you would save by removing it. And spend that money on a 5 year subscription to XM.

I am glad all of you like your satellite radio, but any help on my question? XM would be cool I guess, but I just don't think I would ever use it cause I burn CDs and have an iPod which I will get a hookup when I get my new stereo system.

I am just wondering if you understand what we are also telling you. For the price to actually remove the antenna, Welding metal in it's place, and then paint match pretty much the whole roof. You would be able to afford XM for probably the length that you will own your car.

It's not the money. I don't have any issues with how much it costs. If it was only a dollar I still wouldnt buy it. I don't need 300 channels to listen to while driving to school every day when I can just as easily burn CDs and I have my iPod. The antenna is just ugly and I was just wondering what it would cost to remove it.

I don't listen to regular broadcast except carguys on NPR. You should at least try it for a month. Should have gotten a coupon for it when you bought the car.

I have an I-pod, I burn cd's(purchased on itunes), and listen to retail cd's

The XM is great, its more than just music.

I just don't think I would use it. Right now I don't drive that much, mostly because I don't have my liscence. But I get it the 24th. Even then I will only drive to school (10 mins each way) and around town and stuff. I could see you using it a lot because you probably have to drive a descent amount of time to get to work and take some vacations and stuff. But everywhere I will be driving is pretty close, so a CD will work fine for me.

if you still have your stock xm module , and harness that runs from it to the stock deck ill buy it from you ?

also there will be a large hole in the roof from the antenna , depending on the shop , they prob want several hundred to weld it and paint it

Im getting XM for free!!!! YAY, wont tell you how, secret. But really, XM is SWEET, sound quality is BETTER than CD's, and any1 that says they wont use it, try it for a month and you wont let it go. Even for driving around town and such. I have a pretty kick ass system in my car, and I only own like 3 CD's, of less common songs that arent on XM, im sure they are somewhere, but i havent listened to all of the channels. I pretty much only listen to the XM, even just cruzing around town, going to work, or even going to school which is a mile away!! If you are listening to XM, and you switch to regular radio, u will want to puke, what a huge difference. Also, if you get XM, wire it directing into the back of the radio, I wouldnt use the FM tuner, considering a huge reason I bought it is because of the sound quality, and your killing yourself by running it through fm radio
