I've got an actual genuine question. I've looked around about it and I've found out a little but I'd like a actual, set answer on this topic.
Speakers come in 2, 3, 4, 5, and Components styles right? What exactly does this mean?
I plan on getting 2 12 inch subs in my jbody and am also going to upgrade the rear 6x9 and the front 4x6 and was looking and a bunch of people told me to get pioneer 5-ways but then others said that 5-ways are worthless when your getting subs...and then others told me to get a set of components...and honestly I have no idea what a comp. actually is...is it just a tweeter/speaker bundle?
Can someone give me the lowdown on speakers/subs?
Components - woofer and a tweeter combo with a crossover box.
X-way coaxials - woofer with a number of mids and tweeters, usually with some sort of capacitor as a crossover on the tweeters/mids.
isn't 5 way a bit excessive? 3 way does me just fine... I mean come on, components sound better and they're technically 2-way speakers...
5 way
i would never touch that. a two way is all you need, components are way nicer if you have time or money to pay someone to install them. I molded my tweeters into my A-pillars, it looks really good but because the tweeter is closer to the ear, the phase is not the same as the woofer, i'd recommend buying a decent set of components and make kick pods, it'll sound wicked.
