Hey I was just wondering if anyone knew if its possible to build a compartment under the rear seat of a 2 door Cavalier to mount your amp in there? I thought it would help clean things up and my amp is too wide for under the front seats. Thanks in advance.
I wouldnt do it under the back seat mainly cause there is no room or ventalation for cooling the amp.

You could always mount it on the back of the rear seat like I have mine mounted.
Ya I totally didnt even think of that, do you have any other ideas or do you know if its possible to relocate the floor heating vent under the front passenger seat.
My sub and 6x9s are mounted facing the cab so that wont work for my set up byt thanks.
^^ ive heard someone talking about that before, im not sure how they did it but it is possible

Yes, you could potentially run the heating vent under the seat with just some plastic pieces... But you'd have to have your fan on all the time so that the amp doesnt overheat and then burn through your seat.
Could you get us some pic's of your current setup? If you have your subs in a regular box you should turn them around so they're facing the back of the trunk. Better sound, better bass that way.
If you have a bandpass box you can still mount the amp on the back seat. I did it when I had my bandpass, should work for you too.
If anyone has any ideas I'm hoping to get all my new gear in this weekend or next, so just fly em by me and I'll see what I can do. I will post some pics when I get it done.
Thanks RandomGuy 171
I haven't built my box yet, i just had drawn it up to get specs and
meassurements ready, but that gave me an idea for how to change the mounting.
My plan was to mount the sub between the two 6x9s all in one box
(separate sealed compartments) the sub box will be ported, all facing the cab.
But now that you pointed that out to me I could:
1. Face the sub to the trunk
2. Face the 6x9s to the cab
3. Mount the amp on the back or the sub compartment of the box,
between the 6x9s
But my question is do I face the port to the trunk or cab?
Thanks for helping a noob out
you could always find a way to mount your amp to the trunk lid? that would be different. James Cahill "not sure if spelled right" has a second gen cav with his amp on the trunk lid I believe. thats always an option.

Do you guys also know if you can move the vent under the shotgun seat and take out the ridges in the floor with out wrecking something to mount the amp under the front seat?
pics would greatly help you could always make a compartment and put the amps in the spare tire hole if you have aftermarket bigger rims and a bodykit you wont be able to use your spare anyway its just a thought
^^ is there enough air flow in there to keep em cool, or would u suggest some vents/fans to circulate air

you would have to use some fans. it would get way to hot there IMO. theres not enough airflow in to the trunk to keep them kool. and in my case. i have the vents blocked off
OK so this is what I'm talking about under my front passenger seat.
What is the giant ridge in the middle and can I take it out to put my amp there?
Ignore the fact that I have a sandbox and an old receipt there, I know I need to
clean, but you can see the floor vent, then the ridge that follows it under the
seat and the ridge it meets with closest to the camera.
Can I cut these ridges to mount my amp on the floor here, with out totaly wrecking something?
I will run the heating vent to the side so it doesn't blow directly on my amp too.
i think that ridge is part of ur cars structure, i dont know how safe it would be to cut it

Crappy
But I could build up around the ridge to make a flat platform
to mount the amp onto I guess. Cause I'm thinking that is my
choice for a spot to put it, but didn't know how else to get around
the ridges.
Why not mount it in the wheel well, like I did?
Cause I don't have rims yet and need my spare tire because in
Saskatchewan there are potholes the children could fall into
and be gone forever.
That and I golf and play hockey and
wouldnt want to scatch things up putting my gear in the trunk.
Just to let you guys know, I got the amp in under the front passenger seat, and didnt have to move any of the floor heat, just had to be creative. I will put pictures up as soon as my digital starts working agin.
I'll put pictures of my sub and its enclosure now that theyre done too.
hurry i would like to see this setup that you got going
hmmmm.... I am confused, and the Blonde genius that is me,
does not easily get confused
They should be up tuesday afternoon
Sorry for the wait, but it will be worth it
Ok so here's how I mounted the amp under the front passenger seat,
now I am gonna tell you this barely fit, so if you try it, as my Grandpa
says "measure twice cut once"
See you have this heating vent for rear floor heat here:
So I took just normal 3/4" thick stereo board and cut it into a U to fit
around the vent and still let air pass through. I then bent some
aluminum to fit in the hollow part so the air wouldn't blow on my amp
and over heat it. Here's pics of the open end to the rear seat:
And this is how tight it was to the seat bolts:
My camera then died so I didnt get any pics of my sub and stellar
new box but I will get them out tomorrow sometime.
Tell me what you guys think.
