Subwoofers: 12's or 15's
Tuesday, March 14, 2006 7:00 PM
I'm thinking of buying a 15" Subwoofer and a powerful enough amp to run it to. My cousin told me to buy his 2 12's and amp. I don't know what amp he's running with it. 12's or 15's: which is powerful? Also, I'm running my factory stereo. Will I be able to run the Subs with my factory stereo or not?

1. You buy a Ford.
2. 20 minutes later, you break down on the freeway
3. Before you realize it, you're broke.
4. Then you come to your senses and said "I should have
brought a J-Body".
5. Now you're a dork with a POS Ford. See you should have
used your brain. Oh, well. Good Luck, loser

what?? ... man you gotta say what models they are if you want anyone to go into any detail on them...but generally ... 12's are more responsive because they are smaller, so like they'd be more suited to, say rock with punchiness, and 15's would be for like rap or something with out of hand rumbling...imo id go with two 12's *if* they are a decent brand...unless that 15 u want is somethin special

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.

a 10" sub could hit harder than a 15" sub..... how hard a sub hits depends on much more than just the size....

i have 2 12" MTX subs for sale, they max out at 1000watts each.... im pretty sure that'd be awfully loud given sufficent power...

i know i 10 could be louder than a 15 i was just using generalisations because he didnt specify what types of subs they were

I'd say the 12's as long as they are decent. But then again I'm more SQ than SPL.

I've put dual 12's in my car and found that to be too much (audiobahn DVC, not sure the model in a sealed box powered by a memphis 1000d). I ended up getting a set of 10" memphis M3's in a dual vented box powered by the same amp and they are VERY clean and VERY loud little subs. Way better then the 12" audiobahns or the infinity refrence 12's i had before that.

1. find out what the sub's and amp are that your cousin has and the #.

2. you can run it off your factory stereo but you wont have as good of a sound.

3. what are you lookin for to get loud (spl), sound good (sq) or a mix of both that we like to call (sql)

4. how much do you want to spend

also alot of the people on the site don't know what they are talkin about a 15" or even 18" will have the same sq as a 8" or 10" in the right box even better. if i was your ill pick up a new deck it will sound better and you have more control over your system.

why not just get a new deck a set of componets in the doors and a amp to push them then pick up some subs and a amp for them.

first off... 1000 Watts means nothing... it's the RMS power that you want to look at. u want to look at what it peaks at and what the max output is for that sub. that way u kno u can use it. as for the 12's or 15's... that's the same thing i'm fightin with... i'm not sure if i wanna go with a 12" L7 or a 15" L7...
