Amp keeps blowing fuses
Wednesday, March 15, 2006 2:18 PM
I have had my amp since around xmas time, and it was working great...but just today..or last night, one or the other...it blew the fuses ... is there anything other than an amp malfunction that could cause the fuses to blow, like i didnt change how it was hoooked up or anything, but they blew, and i thought it was just a fluke occurance, and i put two more in and they blew 2 seconds after the amp turned on...so i was wondering what could be causing this to happen? The other amp is hooked up exactly the same and its not blowing the fuses, and its the same amp as well, and i tried to see if maybe it was some kinda ground/power problem, but i switched the wires to the ones that were powering the amp that was blowing fuses over to the one that isn't and it was fine ... any one have any ideas reguarding what could be happening?

Well i narrowed it down to something to do with the RCAs or something cuz when i plug them in the amp blows the fuses...this is pissing me off lol, and its not with the cables cuz i tried them on my other amp and nothing happened to it so like wtf could be causing this? some internal problem that i should take it in for??

is your sub wired properly ie.. 1ohm 2ohm 4ohm what is your amp rated at you might be running a the wrong ohms from the subs into the amp your amp might not be able to handle whatever ohms you are putting into it, im not sure if thats right but its something to look into?

well its hooked up to two ohms, which it can handle, and now i just went outside and tried again and it blew the fuses without the rca's so i dont know, the subs were not hooked up it just blows fuses...its really annoying me, the guy at the shop said "oh its fine i had it hooked up and everything worked" but god, it sure as hell doesnt work in my car....it was going once then blew when i hooked up the rcas...now this time it blew when i plugged in the remote switch...i dont know what the hell is going on..

well i would suggest pulling wires and stuff while everything is on, i always suggested that to be a no-no.

but i have had that problem before when a circuit blew in my old legacy amp, put in the fuse turn it on just about to play and pop, fuse blown. i hope thats not it cause it's probably crapped on you then.

good luck.

arrrg it better not be that...its still on warrenty but still...i hate waiting for stuff to get back...but i think i might ahve wired something wrong because now its only when i hook it up to one of the two power lines...idno its weird...lol this is really confusing me

can you try testing it outside the car?get a table and put it in front of your car , now put the amp on the table, and run a power wire and remote wire together to your positive on your battery and run a ground wire to the negative, now take a set of rca's (not in the car) and run them from your deck to the amp, if everything is still good try to hook up some crappy speaker that you have laying around to the amp, if that works then replace your rca's in the car maybe they got pinched when you put them in, remember this is just a suggestion not a technical answer. Good luck

nah it was nothing with the RCAS i have two amps runing off the same RCAS cuz i split em ... and tried both of the ends of the splits on the working amp, but yeah i took it in and the guy there said it was an internal problem and has to send it out, its on warrenty, so im happy...i tried everything mentioned above before i did this, nothing worked lol just blew fuses
