Has anyone put a sub in the middle of the rear deck between the two rear speakers? I know there might be some clearance issues with the trunk torsion bars ( I think that's what they are), but I think there is enough room to build up an adapter under the rear deck cover, there is a lot of room under there. Has anyone tried this, or can think of any foreseeable problems? I have 2 10" subs now in an enclosure, but I'd rather have a cleaner look and just use one.
1) your gonna need a free air sub.
2) its gonna have to be 8"s
3) clearance is still a big issue.
you wont have any clearance unless you (a) somehow lift the rear deck up (b) remove the torsion bars and find out some other way to open the trunk or (C) cut a hole in the deck lid its self and place the sub in it. but it will not sound good becuse you will have to much air space, and your regular speakers will vibrate from the sub.

The points stated above are all good points, but if the sub is high powered enough i'd have worries about the rear windshield breaking.
About the box issue, wave-box makes a system for a free air sub, so that you don't need an enclosure. Also, you could try reverse mounting the sub so that the magnet is up. They make some pretty shallow subs now. I know Pioneer has a Premier sub out meant for mounting in doors. You might want to try some of these Ideas.
yeah pioneer has a sub thats like 2.5 inchs deep i believe...that would prolly fit if you could some how manage to make a little box behind it so its not in open airspace

I think someone on here fit a set of 10's in the back deck. I fiberglassed my back deck and I'm putting a set of 8 inch speakers back there, and i'm also enclosing them.
Your main problem is going to be that if you cut the deck you are going to need to reinforce it with MDF. Maybe 1/2 inch. The vibration will be horific on such a thin piece of metal!! Too much flexing! Flexing means vibration! Vibration equals extra noise! Kicker's S8L7(8's) are Free Air and also have a chromed magnet cover! They would look good firing down and if you mold the fiber glass correctly you should be able to mount them firing into the car. You will have to ask someone who knows fiberglass how thick it needs to be to stand that kind of beating! You might also consider using smaller amps. You don't have to beat them to death in order for them to be loud and sound good! Find out what the RMS is on the amp, not the MAx power! Buy an amp that produces that amount of watts or a little over. Don't go under!! It will be just like a factory headunit powering components, Not loud enough!!
