sub problems
Thursday, April 06, 2006 2:38 PM
Well i dont know if this is actually true or not but my elctronics/audio teacher at school tought us that when you blow the coils in the sub one it wont work and two when the power is off and you push on the cone it will make a scrathing noise. Well my sub went yesterday and i was pissed so i do what he said about the pushing on the cone. It makes a noise like metal and a wire brush rubbing up against each other. If my coil is fried is there away i can repair it myself? Will i have to send it away to get it repaired? or will i have to get a new sub? its an RE Audio 12" sub. I dont know if it came with a warrenty that covers this or not. Please some one help it sucks not having bass and i want to get it fixed asap!

i have a 12" RE sub from re audio.

I have a avionixx AXA 440.4 amp

i want to see if i can get a 12" SE from re audio to work on that amp, or get another re product that will work on that one. I dont really want to get a new amp. I dont have the much money for it only have about 185? to spend

according to the specs i found...that amp does 2x220 @ 4 ohm.

i would suggest something a little less then an SE

find a sub that is dual 2ohm, and get two of them. put one sub on each pair of channels bridged. a sub rated around 175-250rms would do just fine.

so the SE wouldn't work? i guess i could get dual 10" but i would love to have just one 12" i dont really want to have to remake a sub box. I have a ported fiberglassed box with a mdf frame that i spent a lot of time into it and i dont really want to just throw it away unless its the only way.

What would be the recamandations for eather 10"s or 12"s if i had to go a different route with this. I have no clue on whats good and whats not for a desent price. I can only spare ... 180 everything else is in savings for the new car.

well then look for a dual 4ohm sub that is rated for about 400-500 watts

the SE can take upwards of 1,000rms easily. You dont have much power to work with.

well i found a sub that i can get two of. Its a Kicker 05CVR10 -2 its a 10" 600w dual 2 ohm. Rms range is 50-300 watts, peak powerhandling is 600 watts. Will this work if i get two of them?

well ive been talking with some people who know what there talking about and they said for me to get the 12" SE sub from RE audio now. I wont be able to get it to hit as hard but i will be able to make it hit harder then the other dual 10" kickers will by upgradeing the amp when i get enough money to get it. My bros going to buy it off me some time so i will be able to get the new one. Thanks wysiwyg for the help!

you probably could repair it yourself.... but I strongly suggest getting it reconed by professionals (aka the people who made it) unless you've done it before. My GF and her step-brother repaired his sub, but its was basically a fluke how they did it.

wysi u said the SE can handle 1000+rms easily but on re's site it says 600rms? is that thing like massively underrated er wat?

wysiwyg wrote:i would say they bang, they don't really pound so much. but if
you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.

600rms 1200 max

you can stick a kw on it no problem (not like your average 1000 watt amp puts out 1000 watts all the time anyway)

forgot to mention, not all the time when a sub blows will it not work.

I blew up a 4" computer floor subwoofer, ran 400w @ 8 Ohms through it, and had it smoking. I laughed, threw it away, but apparently my gf's friend brought it back out and was playing music through it again! at lower volumes though, it works, not even distorted. At higher volumes it just sat there and popped over and over, so I was like "wtf?"

Same thing happened to one of the Rockbox subs I blew up (accidentally cuz of the amp dying) One didnt make a grinding noise because the VC fell right off (sounded like a slinky when you shook it), the one that DID make a grinding noise, surprisingly still worked , so... WTF?

My SE10 handles the 400ish watts I'm feeding it just fine. It appears it able to reach xmax on that wattage also with little distortion. It does get a little warm at times. I dont know how long I'd push it with 1kw ran to it though.
