I installed a remote starter on my Cavalier. I got a recall notice in the mail.
What is replaced and will they need to remove the remote starter to get it replaced?
Should I remove the remote start first?

the recall is because when your battery is dead, dumbass people have a tendency to keep cranking and cranking and cranking. thinking that their car will magically come to life. the wires heat up, and voila, you smell burning. anyway, if you have remote start (as do i), i suggest against it because it could possibly cause you major problems when a dealership tries to start messing with it.

call the dealership if the recall is from there. they will be able to tell you. otherwise just call whoever you ever need to get it replaced.

they will need to disconnect the starter if it is the recall i am thinking of. if this is the one about the whole ignition thing catching fire, than ya.
my sister had one in her cavalier, the stealership put up a huge fight about not doing it saying that the starter voids the warranty and @!#$. when they finally did it, they didnt reconnect the auto starter.
she went back and after a little bit of hell raising after some time they did.
it is not your fault that the recall took place. a remote starter should not void your waranty, and even if it did, they have to preform the recall notice because it is a safety issue. now with reconnecting it, if it was constructed right in the first place and the recall was not needed, then they would not need to take everything apart to install the new relay for the ignition.
there is no reason why they should not perform the recal. doing so is illegal i believe (dont quote me). an auto starter is not the reason of the recall, and should be reconnected because its GM's fault that it needs it in the first place, so they must reconnect it.
hopefully they dont even mention it at all, but right after it is done, make sure they reconnected your auto starter and it still works.

In my opinion dont let GM mess with your starter. They totally messed mine up. I know mine is really involved and complicated because its a 2 way one...but still. Ive completely stopped taking my car to the dealership even for recalls. I know some people so I know thats not an option for everyone but you get the point.
don't get it done... it's pretty much useless, and after having it done to my car, it actually seems harder to start
to do the recall is has nothing to do with the remote starter, if the guy above me says his is harder to start which im not sure if its true or its all in his head either way on the remote starter youd have to adjust the crank time but thats it. The recall is done under the hood and at the actual starter wires themselves they will put a relay in and put it by the fan. all or most of your remote start wiring will be in the car itself so it shouldnt have a problem. i have 2 96s and i havent had it done to either of them though.if you feel the need to do it then go for it
