Well it finally happened to me, after all the stories I have read about Autoloc not being all that great and me not wanting to believe it, my door solenoid for my shaved door handles crapped out on me.
So I call up Jason from aPlus Performance, and he hooked me up with a good deal for a SPAL replacement solenoid, even though I was a little reluctant to choose them over Autoloc. I get my package the next day, and install it that night (tonight actually), and I must say that I was very impressed with the overall quality of the SPAL solenoid. It had a rubber boot over the piston, built-in mounting bracket, and simple 2-wire setup running out of them (much more installer friendly than the Autoloc). And after all was done, I even prefer the sound of the SPAL better when you pop the door (I only hear the piston being pulled down, as opposed to the Autoloc where I can hear it pull down, then release back up).
Though I also have to add, that after taking out the Autoloc solenoid and tinkering with it, I kinda realized that it was fixable, and I probably could have reused it. The piston and cylinder had built up some corrosion and such, and basically got stuck. I think its safe to say that because it doesn't have a rubber boot like the SPAL does, that rain and moisture had gotten the best of it. But after cleaning it up real good, and greasing it a bit, it worked just fine.
Anyways, the point of this post is to help people that are thinking of going with shaved handles or have them know the differences between the 2 main products that me, John D. Customer, has had with them.

Sucks John, but I had it happen to me too. Although mine were not reparable after they smashed into the ground over and over and over.
I actually just swapped the passanger's side to the drivers and replaced the other with a cheapo one from eBay. But when I go to do the other car, I'll be getting Spals.
i too have had a problem with autoloc, the suicide door kit the hinge snapped on it... bad batch of hinges was the exact words from someone at headoffice, still going to see if i can't get some $$$ back for the agriavation of loosing my old coupe...

haha I have them too I want SPAL ones though.. If you want to buy both autoloc ones from me I'll sell em to you and then just get the spal ones. Send me an email if you are interested.
i'm never ordering anything from autoloc again...both their power window and lock kits crapped out on me, and Autoloc haven't replied to one email or phone call that i've made. HORRIBLE customer service backing up HORRIBLE products.
im not gonna buy 4 solenoids dude...even tho i have a sedan. ill buy one autoloc from you if you give me a good price. im not shaving my handles...i just wanted it for cool factor.
