Opinions on Elemental Designs??
Saturday, April 15, 2006 8:02 AM
I read through the old thread, and I hate to kick a dead horse, but I'm wondering, from those who have actually had experiences with them, good or bad. I haven't been able to find a dealer who sells the products, at least in my area, which is odd since they're based in Iowa and I live in Des Moines. I know very little about their products other that what was in the old thread, so I'm just looking for some fresh thoughts. If it helps, I'm wanting to get back into competition so I'm researching products. I've been out of the scene for way too long and honestly I just don't know what's good anymore.

their flat cone woofers were some of the best SQ competing stuff out there. Only problem was a manufacturer they used couldn't replace parts or some crap so they ended up not being able to honour their warrenty's. Still a good company though. NO idea on how they would be for SPL, and ALL I have ever gotten to hear from them is the flat coned woofers. BUT if you are into SQ then you should also try out an Adire Shiva.

Yeah, I've done SPL, that was my niche when I competed. But I've grown out of the basshead phase and I'm looking more at competing in SQ. I've helped with the design of a few SQ vehicles, but I'm still on a learning curve when it comes to acoustics. I have a solid grasp on staging and imaging, so hopefully all will go well. Most of the products I was used to using were from places like Focal or Kove, Diamond Audio, that sort of thing, but again, not too many local dealers. Nearest Kove dealer was in Omaha and I don't know if that guy is even still in business. Metro Audio Dynamics and Stereo West were eating up the market so all the little guys were sort of struggling.

You have to order directly from them.

I have been running 2 16kv.2's in the house for a couple years now and I love them. amazed at the quality you get for $130. Spec wise it certainly seems like better bang for the buck than Adire and I find they sound awesome. I am running them in oversized sealed(4.5 ft^3 and 300W each) boxes and have them EQ'ed for a little more low end.(but this is sealed subs in a huge room... I dont think i would need EQ in a car.)

Just this week I recieved a delivery of 6 13kv.2's(basically older 2004 models for $50/ea + shipping) for myself, fridgidy(my brother), and a couple more of my friends. Right now they are doing the same thing with 2004 model 13Ov.2 for $100+ shipping.

Just read about the deal with the older model before you decide to go that route. (basically if you have a problem with one it can only be replaced with a 2006 model)

When you look at the 8"-12" kv2 and all ov2's there may be plenty of competion in those price ranges. But for a great sounding 15" woofer with 16mm Xmax its hard to beat $135 or less shipped (and 10% off when you buy 2) for a 16kv.2.

Also check out ebay...for some reason ED is selling directly on Ebay for a little less than the prices are if you order from their website.

At this point I'm researching my options. My biggest drawback at this point is budget so I'm being really careful and if I can get some really good stuff at a lower price, then what the hell. Not that I wouldn't love to have Kove or Focal again, but I no longer have sponsors so I'm footing the bill on my own. I've read up on some other sites about eD and for the money they seem like a really good choice, but I wanted to talk to some people who actually use their gear.

my time to chime in... as of last month i became the new warehouse manager for eD.

as for the old flat cone problems. it wasnt that they couldnt get parts and replace warranties. the manufacturer they used at the time switched the glue and joints started coming apart. everything was replaced. just alot a pain having 100+ speakers go bad at the same time. i was a customer at the time and it was a mess.

we have gotten past that stage. we now own all the tooling on all subs we sell. and have control over the build house. as for prices. if u call us up we offer package deals. and you dont pay shipping on most products if ordered directly from us.

Another thing ln2johnny. we are currently moving to Newton. about 25-30 minutes out of Des Moines. if you ever wanted to come down some day. we would be willing to demo some stuff for ya. sit in some cars with some eD products in them. instead of making a blind purchase. listen to the product.

Alex, I'd really appreciate that. I've never heard any of your products so that's something I was concerned with. There are very few companies I'd be willing to make a blind order from. I'll send you out an e-mail some time this week, and hopefully we can set up a time for me to come down there. When will you guys be in Newton?
