Should I build my own wall?
Saturday, April 15, 2006 10:03 PM
Hey guys, I recently had a REAL bad experience with a local shop. Here is a list of the @!#$ they did:

-->Used HOT GLUE to mount x-overs, mids and tweeters in the door (one fell out already)
-->Put tweeters in the doors even though we agreed on putting them on the dash
-->Put one set of mids in a place we didn't want them(facing the bottom of the seat 1/2" from it)
-->No enclosure for mids even though they said there would be
-->Built the wall with half of the port required by the specs
-->Told me that the sq.in. of the port doesn't matter
-->Mounted the boxes with only a few wood screws
-->Mounted the amps so that you can't get to them without dismantling the wall!
-->Covered everything in vinyl even though I wanted them primed(vinyl job was poor)
-->Only tinted the windows covered by the wall(back is already peeling)
-->Ran a wire over the engine to the connector for the starter with a prong stuck into the connector(connector is unplugged and wedged facing up real close to the battery so all you have to do is run a 1' jumper to bypass the alarm)
-->Kept my car for three+ months after telling be it would take only two weeks
-->Cracked my dash
-->Got screws stuck in my tires
-->Left my car FILTHY inside and out
-->Finally agreed to fix it and took my car, but they were avoiding me(2 months later I called while my friend was looking in the store to make sure they were doing it, when I asked for they only guy they wanted me to talk about my problem they said he wasn't there and he was 5' away from the phonelooking at them)
-->After they were confronted with that info they told my friend to tell me to get my @!#$ty car out of their shop and that they were not going to fix anything.

My question is, should I reinstall all of the stuff myself? I know how to do most of it and I need to save money at this point. The only part I'm afraid of is the wall. I can build a sealed box but I have no experience with ported boxes or walls. Does anyone here know of a good shop around houston? I'm almost ready to give up but I have too much into it already.

I'd start by telling them if they don't fix everything right that you will be posting their business everywhere you can telling people to stay away from them, and that you will be taking them to court.

If they don't have their heads too far up their asses, they will not want to get involved whatsoever with any kind of suit. It will cost them less to correctly fix their car than to defend themselves in court.

Dude i wouldnt care if i could do it myself or not. File a suit in small claims court.
Go back there and tell them they have 1 week from today to fix everything free of charge. The dash, new tires if you need them, clean it inside and out and to put everything to the specs of what you asked. And if they refuse give them the papers and tell them youll see them in court. If they agree then just drop the suit. Its only 50 bucks typically. And you have a pretty good chance from what i can tell

The problem is that on my receipt there are no details. There is nothing stating that I want everything primerd, not covered in vinyl. There is nothing stating the specs I wanted, so I don't stand a chance, it would be my word against theirs. Check my profile for specs on my system.

or you could use your car as a rolling showcar and set it right outside there building to show what the store can "REALLY" do. but seriousely. take em to court.

I'd take 'em to court. Not everyone puts what their mistakes were on reciepts or anything. A lawyer is there to help you, and honestly, why would you ask them to crack the dash, filth up the car, and put screws in your tires? Mind you that could have happened afterwards, but even so, screws in tires usually only happens once in a while, and usually only one screw.

Never trust anyone to do as good of a job as your own two hands and a creative mind can do.

unless it requires sophisticated equipment that you don't own.... like suspension @!#$ or whatever.... i dunno

I think I'm just going to do it myself, I just might need some help figuring out the port. I also need to figure out how many cubic feet I can get back there. They will get what's comin' to 'em eventually.

I'd say find some big bald guys in black suits, named Vinnie and Guido. HAve 'em go down and "negotiate" the repairs for their hack job. But that's the criminal side of me, he's been drinking all afternoon. The logical side says report them to the Better Business Bureau and spread their name anywhere you can, tell everyone what they did. Even if nothing is written on receipts, take pictures and take them to small claims. Regardless of the vinyl job, if it's crappy work, it's crappy work. My old shop, and any reputable shop for that matter, would stand behind their work, and if one of our guys would have pulled something like that, my boss would have had their ass on a platter.

Like I said, they have it coming I need a 3cu ft box with a 40sq in x 35" long port per sub.

Net box = 3 cu ft x 4 = 12 cu ft
speaker displacement is .48cu ft x 4 = 2 cu ft
port displacement = 1400 cu in x 4 = 3.25 cu ft
---------------------------------------------------------------
Total Cubic Feet = 17.25! That seems like a lot.

Feel free to correct me, this should give me a 32Hz port if I'm correct.

you shouldn't need each port to be that long...if using multiple ports.

I figured 2 subs per port, so how long does the port need to be? The subs are Orion H2s.

Based on the box size, I'm guessing 4 15"s? Good luck getting those to fit. If you do, please let me know.

Nate, kinda funny don't you think, we were just talking about this.
