I am having a rpoblem that is driving me absolutely effing nuts....
I am getting this high pitched whine in my speakers that changes pitch with the RPMs of my engine. I called Crutchfield and they said that since it changed pitch with the vehicle's RPMs that it had to be a ground. I am running a 4 channel amplifier which is amping my 2 6x9s in back and my 5.25" components up front. I have moved the ground to 3 different locations, all with the same result---the whine is still there.
Also, I did run my RCAs on the opposite side of the vehicle from my power wire (besides wouldn't a signal noise create a constant hum?).
Any ideas as to what I can do to make it stop?
alternator whine i believe, i get that too, cant remember how to fix it

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.
LOL
Reground the radio. Where are you grounding the amp? Make sure you scrape away any paint and ground directly to metal.

Could be gains set to high, bad ground, old altenator or cheap RCAs
you snooze you lose!
keep working, millions on welfare depend on you!
Could even be bad RCA/S

So I'm thinking maybe I should try grounding the radio itself..
I have the amp grounded to a bolt that goes into the body under the back seat. The bolt is one of the ones holding that black bracket in place under the back of the backseat. I also tried a stud that is back there (it's like a bolt that comes straight out of the body)---I stripped all the paint off of it, but that did not work either. The digital volt meter shows that it is a solid ground, so I'm thinking my problem may be elsewhere.
Anyone have any insight on the best way to ground the head unit?
I really don't think it is the RCAs though---I never had a problem with them before when I had my mono amp and subs hooked up. This problem has just started occuring recently. I ran this amp for a while with no issues at all, it just seems to be recently (like within the last few months) that I have had this problem.
Could it be a problem with the power wire?
