Ahhhhh the options!
Sunday, May 07, 2006 9:24 AM
Ok, so, i've had my subs and amp for about 3 months now and i must say i'm not very happy with how they sound. I have an Audiobahn A8000T amp and an ABP122T bandpass box with 2 12" audiobahn subs. I know that was a bad choice, didn't research enough before i bought them. Found them in an auction on ebay and got them for $220 shipped CDN. got the amp for about the same price, but that one i actually looked into quite a bit and didn't find my else better in the price range. Right now, i have an offer on both for $550 CDN. I've been talking to the guy at Elemental Designs Canada and i can get a Nine.2x amp and a 13Ov.2 sub for $570 shipped CDN. Now, I know i'm getting rid of those subs and box, they sound like ass and can barely hit any freq's without distorting. My options are, to sell the amp and subs and get both the eD things or sell just the subs and get either one or two new subs, they'll probably be from eD. Seems like they have some nice gear and for reasonable prices. Let me know what you guys think, you've been at this a lot longer than i have. Thanks a lot for any input.

Personally I really like the Elemental Designs stuff, but I'm pretty sure that if you chuck that bandpass box and stick in a sealed one, you'll be very happy, it wont distort as much because it will have the extra pressure behind it so it wont be, flopping aroung... if i dare use those terms. Which order bandpass box is it though? if you dont know, just explain the box.

I'm not sure what order it is, but i don't particularly like the sound of it. It's very very boomy and when i'm listening to rock music it sounds like crap. I can attempt to attach a pic of it and hope that it's not too huge. It was before it got installed and my cat was in the way, so that's what the lumpy thing is in front of it.

aaaaaaaaand it didn't work right, but if you right click on it and press view image it should. that worked for me. Anyways, i think i'm gonna order the nine.2x and the 13Ov.2 tonight. I also just picked up a ported box by bassworx for it, so it should sound quite a bit better.

no wait... honestly, just make a new box for your current system, I'm positive you'll love it. Bandpass sounds like poop 75% of the time. its great for burping certain frequencies and nothing else. make-or buy, a sealed enclosure and it'll sound like a brand new system.

I agree with FH. While bandpasses can sound AMAZING if you build them close enough to perfect, it's much easier to get just as much sound quality from a sealed box. It's just going to be a bit quieter most of the time, but the volume doesn't change as much between sound frequencies like a bandpass does.

ewwww... prefabbed + audiobahn = NO win.

1. Sell your stuff, PICK UP the e.D. gear. WELL WORTH IT.

2. Very few people can build a proper bandpass box, but if you are looking for one, shoot up to Orangeville and go to Sounder Light. Lou makes legendary 6th order boxes.

Well, i just ordered the 13OV.2 and a nine.2x amp, and picked up a bassworx ported box. got a buyer lined up to take the audiobahn stuff off my hands this weekend. I'm looking for nice clear bass that can hit low, and still be moderately loud and i think this gear will do quite nicely, 600w rms x1@4ohms, should sound pretty good and be loud enough. Apparently they underrate their amps quite a bit, so i'm getting pretty psyched, my stuff should be here friday. Thanks for the tips guys.
