Would this pose a problem?
Wednesday, May 17, 2006 5:24 AM
I want to install the amp for my sub underneath my front seat. I plan on running all the wire under the carpet so its all hidden. Is this going to be a problem? Do I need to make something so it won't get ruined? Keep in mind that I live in Canada so don't forget the snowy and cold winters.

Thanks for your help

Ask yourself:

Will it fit? Including when I'm sitting in the seat (seats sag when your butt is planted in them)
Will it have fresh air to keep from overheating?
Will it be at risk of getting wet or really dirty (remember the snow)?
Will back seat passengers be hitting it with their feet?
Will it hit anything that can cause a short?

If you answered correctly, you should be okay. Under the seat can be really safe or a bad idea depending on all of those things.

- I will have to wait until I get it in the mail to test fit it, I will try what you mentioned (sitting in the seat, seeing if anything touches, etc)

Will it have fresh air to keep from overheating?
- I imagine the air coming from the front, and rear whill keep iot cool enough to run alright. Especially when the doors are open, all the extra air circulationg around.

Will it be at risk of getting wet or really dirty (remember the snow)?
- Im very anal when it comes to the cleanliness of my car (my girlfriend doesn;t think thats a good thing) so it souldnt get too dirty under there. Now the snow on the other hand, may be a problem, but I will just have to wait until winter to know for sure.

Will back seat passengers be hitting it with their feet?
- I can't see this being an issue, mainly because my kids car seat is directly behind me.

Will it hit anything that can cause a short?
- Like what?

If you answered correctly, you should be okay. Under the seat can be really safe or a bad idea depending on all of those things.

What could I do to make it REALLY safe?

ok IF it fits and you dont think there\'s going to be a big risk of it getting wet or dirty, cut a piece of MDF the size of the amp to mount it to, lift carpet, place the wood under the carpet where u want the amp, mount the amp to the mdf with the carpet sandwitched in between. that would be my helpful hint for mounting under the seat, that way its firmly secured and u do not drill into the floor of the car.

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I just bought a 20 inch widescreen ultrasharp flat pannel..I'm going to have to subscribe to the high quality porn places now......damn

what year is this car?

In my 03, there is an air vent that is right under the seat that i think would probably be in the way of mounting anything there.

yea and that vent is part of the heating system, so mega heat...

and if you ever have a drink in ur car and it spills... ouch, and if the amp grounds its self out it could short out and fry... not a good idea i think, but wutever u wanna do

not to mention it'll probably sound like crap, as most subs do in free air uses. If it's in a tight, secure box, none of these things should pose any problems.

umm wtf are you talking about?

as for the amp under seat, if you think it'll be ok then go ahead and do it...i would only do it in a truck and not in a cavi but thats just me.

I have an 03 Fire, so would the air vent cause a problem??

I may just mount it somewhere in the trunk and not worry about this.
