i have a distro block (with fuses) for power, ran a 4ga from the battery to it, and then 12ga and 8ga to my two amps.. thats fine and they both work, my question is..
the block has two imputs... why? it has four outputs... if i use more than 2 do i have to useboth imputs? or can i use the other imput as an output as long as i use an inline fuse?
im kinda confused... i can post a pic of the block if u need
thanks guys
On my old block it had two inputs and 4 outputs like yours. One set of inputs per 2 outputs. And I am pretty sure I read on the instructions you have to use both inputs if you want to use all 4 outputs, basically splitting one connection into 2 outputs etc.
You're fine with what you have....depending on the size of your amps.
The dual imputs are for running say...2 4awg to it...then 4 8awg. from it. It's basically just so you dont have to run 0 or 2 awg through your car...you can get the same power by running more of a smaller awg.
Just make sure you use a fuse on everything that comes off (or if it's a fused distro...it'll be fine) of the ditro block.
RE Audio
yea thats wut i figured, ok
with a 4ga input.. how many can i run off of that?
right now i have a 600 watt powered with 8ga and a 240 watt powered with 12ga amps (rms) runnin off of it
the only other thing i can see myself adding is like neons or something which is like 24 ga wire lol
so i guess im good, thanks
most 4ga wires are rated at around 1400 watts RMS (?), or right around 100 amps (I think 125 or 150 is pushing it), so 2 4 ga wires would (in theory) be rated around 2800 watts. Not sure on these numbers, I coulda sworn that 2 4 ga wires handled a bit more than one 0 gauge (which is usually around 3200 watts), but 1400 sounds about right for 4 ga.
I'm not sure, but if the 2 inputs of the distro block are physically connected (as in no separation between the inputs in terms of the block that holds them) then it just means you can run more power through them with a second wire. Some distros are separated. but some people buy a single distro block that distributes both the positive wires and the negative wires in one easy little package. Cleans up the install alot I think. I'm not sure, I've never taken an electronics class and never seen it done, but I dont think you can run a - charge through a fuse. Usually these +/- in one distros are solid pieces and not fused.
yea the two inputs are connected on one side and then there are four fuse holders to the other side with 4 outputs all connected
