Allo! Now you're prob wondering why the hell did he make his own topic, titled with his name nonetheless? Well I was gonna bring back my 8-10 page topic regardings walls, RE SX's and 2500w amps; but that part my car audio life is no longer here.
Background: Previoulsy i had installed my HO alt by Iraggi alt (which has never let me down) anyway I installed the orion 2500d and 2 12" re sx's and 2 heavy duty batts. oh and a nice sized ported box, the big 3 and some second skin audio mat too. The install was done by me and my friend (older jbo member wickedhawk89) over a 22 wrk hour weekend, not bad for first install if i say so myself. I blew the orion, something like 15 outputs were gone I almost cried. All that money to blow the amp. Orion wanted 250 dollar flat fee to fix it. I didn't think twice and sent it off on its long journey home to california.
Orion arrives at friends house a week before i move to san antonio (which is 5 hours away). I had taken the box out because a friend from termpro and I were to make a new better stronger faster box of my design. So we grab mdf and cut/glue/brace. 3 of the 4 side walls do not line up nad the port is roughly a half an inch something is not right. It was my first time designing a box. Lost money on the mdf, old box already cut into to help make new box port walls. so i load the subs, amps, fuse holders, and battery into the trunk and go home. Drive the 5 hour trip to S.A. with no B-B-BASS, and since I bought cheap co-axiels hardly any mid-bass either.
Once in S.A. i decide that im fianlly having withdrawls from no B-B-BASS. Having had a bad box design/building experience i go out and by a pre-fab sealed box. Of course called scott to verify the size of said sealed box. So i happily buy the box and install it with another friend that i lovingly call padawan (jbo member know known as "Ozzie"). Install went great eventhough Ozz left half way through to pick up lil brother. Sounded nice and tight but not bang the breath out of you loud....more like sealed box loud if you know what i mean. So i finaly decide to install my RE comp set that ive had for a half a year. I cut the mdf rings out, dynamat the front doors, and go to install em. mdf ring is too thick.
groan : I shouldn't have tried to compensate for the xmax of the mid-bass : OK so in the process of trying to get the midbass out of the one door ive actually tried to install it to, i strip one screw. Damn home depot's wood screws suck balls. while trying to figure out what to do next, me and another friend (called bigred since he loves the drink big red) get a great idea. Eureka! We can drill the screw out! bad idea. i slip and stab the mid-bass. oddly enough the screw was only for the mid-bass so its no longer on the door. I get pissed and leave the comp set mdf ring and all at another friends place (dude called steve, fun guy). Later on as we were working on Bigred's car at steves, Ozz hits pure gold. Use needlenose pliers to get the screw out of the mdf. It works. RE Comp set is FREE!!! I never try and install the comp set myself again.
around the end of december my Orion decides to go on date/vacation with circuit protection because of my crappy ground. I get pissed not even a half of a year and this Orion is acting up again. i didnt know about the ground issue. So i buy a pioneer mono block capable of doing 600w rms and start talking with Brent with BD Audio Creations. He and i work out a good deal and i took the cavi with new amp AND re comp set to Austin and leave it for 2 days. What comes out is a thing of beauty that i have wanted for a long time. 1 12" SX with the mono pioneer and the multi-channel pioneer amp to the comp set, trunk sealed off from the cabin, all covered in black vinyl with the chevy symbol in preforated black vinyl and a trap door to hold my tools. My audio is finally done correctly and all is well. the SX loves the pioneer amp. and the port for the inward firing box is below the sub in the middle of the cavi, so when it really hits i feel air go by my hand/ear. RE Comp set tweets are really harsh, but i can deal i love em to death.
so yea basically thats what ive been up to. thx to adrian, ozz, mike, steve, wsyi and all the guys here at the org for answering my dumb newb questions, scot @ RE, iggy on termpo, and of course my installer brent.
So yea pics to come soon, i.e. whenever i get my hands on a digi cam. Whats been going on here at audio and elec. on the org? Is nate ever gonna do a wall again????
