Sorry, I hate to do this, but I have a question about the factory radios in 00+ J's. I want to use a Sunfire radio in my Cavalier, and I noticed while looking on eBay that the Pontiac models have an extra connector on the back of the radio. I'm guessing that's for a CD changer or a Monsoon amp, right? Other than getting it reprogrammed, my Cavy harness should plug right in.
Also, another question. When I was selling my factory Cav radio, I plugged it into the harness just to make sure it still worked before I sold it, and I noticed that even after I shut the key off, the radio stayed on. I opened the door - still on. Would having the switched ignition wire running to an aftermarket radio cause this? It doesn't really make sense to me, so I figured I'd ask while I was asking
Thanks for any help
Extra connector is for the steering wheel controls.
Retained Accessory Power (RAP) is why the radio stays on. It's explained in great detail in your owner's manual
But, the radio was still on after I opened the door. I don't understand why it would do that. Normally it would shut off after you open the door OR 15 minutes, right? Mine stayed on until I either shut the radio off (in which case the clock was still on the screen, meaning it still had power) or unpluggd the harness. I'm so confused!!
