I am not looking for someone to tell me exzactly what im gunna hit but id like to know what the highest possible would be so that i dont waste money on a SLP meter that doesnt go high enough.
I have as follows
2 12in Alpine Type R's each with 1.25 Q/Ft of Space Sealed Box
6.5 2 way Kappa Infinity Perfects
6.5 Kappa Infinity Perfect Components
Alpine V12 1005 Amp Pushing 1000 Watts into the subs at 2ohms
Alpine V12 F345 400watts pushing all the infinity Speakers.
Sence a SLP meter jumps in price greatly depending on the max DB it can display, i dont wanna get more than I need. I can get a 150DB meter for 149 dollars and a 120db Meter for 60 dollars. Same company. See the price difference.
Thanks for any help guys
im gonna guess you will be hitting around 142 maybe
I would think that you will most likely break the 120dB marker but there are many factors that come into play. If I were you, I would go with the meter that goes up to 150dB.
Somewhere between 100 and 200 db's. Not trying to be a prick, but there are WAY to many factors to take a guess.

Only way to know is to meter it.

Yeah, SPL isn't like horsepower. You really can't do "X" mod to make "X" SPL. But for starters, a sealed box will have a lower SPL. It's just a fact of life. Vented enclosures make way better SPL even with the same drivers and same power input. Then there's resonant frequency, box's tuned frequency, amp power, driver placement(the subs, not you), voltage supply, input signal, test tracks you're using, meter placement...
1000w into a pair of Type R 12's, in a sealed box. My guess? 130, 135 tops. A slot-vented box, properly tuned and with proper airspace, who knows. Maybe 140.
highly doubt any meter that costs 60 or 100 dollars is that accurate anyway. so it doesn't matter

isnt the term 140db meter like 160?
there is only one metter you should get and its called a termlab. www.termpro.com and go to the store.
the meters you see online suck, they read real high and have a knob so you can turn them up higher if you want.

my amp has that...it's some sort of magic power knob with a slot in it, really makes it bang/hit/thump/slam/pound....etc.

what does meca and iasca use? termlab right?
When I was in MECA back in the day, they used LinearX....not sure what they use now.

Wow thanks guys. What kind would you recommend that is fairly accurate? There is a nice shop in Elmira NY that will set your amps up and then measure SPL. There pretty good, they have done alot of cars that compete and win regularly in the iasca. So i might just go to them.

Yeah...I hear the lineraX is a pretty stiff mic as well.

Somewhat. When I had my Grand Am (non removable rear seat by MECA rules) with two 15" RF HX2's, ported and tuned to 47Hz with a Memphis 500D, it hit a 141.1dB...I was pretty happy.

I have a LanmanX brand power slot, best mod evar!!!!
im going to give you an idea. i have an infinity 1210a(1300 watts peak) AMP hooked with a 15"round Kicker comp CVR512 in a sealed box and it hit 141.5 db
I am **guessing** anywhere from 132 to 140 max on termlab in that box.
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
thanks, i might have switch to a ported box. If i can find one to my likeing...
i would have to guess 130-135 range.

Talking about Benchmark audio? Been to there shops a few times. you happen to have heard if they will be having any comps this year did ya? I would say go and have it metered at a shop and then decide what you want to get to keep tabs on it with.
Yeah Benchmark. I have a friend who used to work there and i have another friend whos whole car was done and redone by them every year and it kicked ass. He was going for SQ though. So i thought i would check them out. Ill ask around if there going to be having any competions this year. Let me know if your gunna be in that area anytime soon, im only about 30 minutes away.
