Well, my yellowtop decided that enough was enough, and it's gone to battery heaven (must have left a light on, and now she won't take any charge). It had a long life, but now it's time to look for a suitable replacement.
I have managed to find a Hawker 1700 for $50 cheaper than the group 34 optima I used to have, and was wondering if anyone here has managed to fit one under the hood of their 2.4L cavalier. I measured my factory battery this afternoon, and the hawker is 3 inches longer (13" vs 10"), but shorter. From what I've determined, I'll need 2 inches of clearance behind the battery for it to fit (with the factory airbox removed and running a CAI).
I know for a fact that people have been able to fit a 1700 under the hood of the 2.2OHV cavalier by removing the factory airbox and running a CAI (I have pictures that prove it - thanks Chris!), but I was wondering if any 2.4DOHC owners have wedged one of them under the hood? I'd have to guess that the battery tray and airboxes are the same between the two (meaning that it should work), but I'm not certain of that. I know the only way it has any chance of working is by putting an aftermarket intake in, but it would be nice to know ahead of time so I can shop around for an intake, or figure something else out.
If anyone can answer this question, please let me know.
