Stock radio interchangability
Tuesday, May 23, 2006 3:44 AM
Grand daughter's 98 Cavalier came to her with a stock am/fm radio and no cd player. Stock radio/cd players for that year Cavalier are hard to find in this area. Are any other GM radios of similer years with cd interchangable with her car? I have an aftermarket Pioneer that can be used with some mods but prefer the stock unit if possible.

some of the trucks gm makes have similar radios. i remember when is was looking for a radio for my 98 cavalier that i found quite a few.

heres a quote from an auction on ebay for a radio out of a lumina.

You are bidding on a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina AM/FM/CD Player. Item features theftlock, and autotone. It has some button wear on the seek button but is in otherwise great shape.

This will fit:

Chevrolet Camaro 97-02
Chevrolet Cavalier 96-99
Chevrolet Caprice 96
Chevrolet Impala 96
Chevrolet S10/S15 Pickup 98-02
Chevrolet S10 Blazer 98-02
Chevrolet Lumina 96-01
Chevrolet Malibu 97-00
Chevrolet Monte Carlo 96-99
Oldsmobile Silhouette 97-99
Chevrolet Venture 97-99
Isuzu Hombre 98-99

they didnt list the sunfire on there, but it is the same as the cavalier anyways. i also believe some grand ams / alero / malibus had this one as well.

there is one other option. if she has the am/fm tape head unit and the button that activates the tape function says "tape/aux", you can use an auxillary cd source.

that gives you 2 options. the first being a cd changer that can be activated with a specific cd changer module (dont remember the part number for the module or the cd changer models, but a friend of mine had this done in his sunfire.) also, you can use a "slave" cd player, which uses a simliar module i believe, but only a single disc cd player instead of a changer. the slave cd player can be found in most of the gm trucks like the suburban and all that kind.

the deck that uses the slave cd and cd changer looks like this.

also, check ebay. there are lots of OEM head units available on there.

Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!
