frequency response test

ok guys and girls... here is some stuff i thought you would be interested in.

my boss designed my sub woofer enclosure for me to hit its maximum output at 42hz. the computer program he uses predicted with the size of the box and the ports tuned the way it was (60 hz i believe) it would produce its maximum out put (db) at 42 hz.

over the weekend i borowed his spl meter and frequency generator.
here are the results....

the dark blue line is the actual plot of the numbers i recorded the yellow line is a trend line based on the dark blue line. the trend line is more like what your ears would actually hear.

after the frequency response was finished i tested for total output with a song that is designed for some pretty good response. i hit about 118db (analog meter, so most numbers are an approximation).

my system consists of a visonik DVC 10" sub in a 4th order bandpass with 2x30W RMS going to it. i have removed the rear speakers for beter imaging and am running acoustic research 6" 2 ways in the front. i am using a pioneer eq for a crossover network.

i am going to do some tweaking of my crossover to try and get rid of the peaks in the frequency response. for instance i have a big peak between 4.5k and 6k hz, so i will try and take that out. i like my highs slightly higher than my mids, but with that peak there, some female singers voices can kind of pierce the ears a little bit.

let me know what you all think.

Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!
