Enabling aux input for 03 cavalier

Hey guys, I have a question about a friend's 2003 Cavalier.

He's trying to install one of those devices that plugs into the aux/6 disc changer port and gives you RCA jacks so you can connect an ipod or other audio device. I've got a couple of questions related to this install:

Does the device need to be run off a 12V switched wire? We can easily get 12v from the orange wire running to the radio, and it's such a small device that I can't see it being bothered if it's on all the time.

Second question is how do you then enable aux input on the radio? We've got power to the device using the orange 12v but when we click auc nothing happens and it stays on radio.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

PAul

The unit should have come with instructions on how to install/operate it. All of the ones I've put in work off the band button, they replace one of the two XM bands if you have the factory XM. Try using band to go through AM, FM, and then it should go to XM, which the adaptor should play though if it's hooked up right.

matt did you use the adapter that plugs into the 12 pin hole on the back of the stock monsoon one? I really want to keep my stock cd player, and dont want have to buy a stock one from the dealer or ebay for way to much and then pay for a converter
