NEED HELP ASAP!!! head unit problems
Friday, May 26, 2006 7:45 PM
i've got an alpine cda-9851 that i've had for about 3 months. my problem is that it still plays through my subs, but there is no sound coming through the speakers. i've checked the wires and they're all hooked up the way they should be. i've had the problem for about a week, but at first it would only cut out occasionally. i'd be driving and it would all of a sudden cut out. if i turned the car off and then back on sometimes it would come back on and sometimes it wouldn't.

it sounds like something is actually wrong with the head unit itself.

any suggestions as to what it might be? i've checked all the wiring and everything checks out okay.

The wires might be coming undone, thats what it sounds like if it comes on sometimes.
Are they run by the HU or an amp???
Also, there is a setting to turn off the HU amp for the speakers, i think it's called power ic, make sure that is on.

^^^^ he's correct. Alpine head units have a setting to turn on and off the internal amp, check and see if it's turned on. If it is, check one of the speaker leads from the head unit with a DMM on AC voltage to see if you're getting any voltage out of them.

the speakers are running off the head unit. i checked all the wires and they're all intact. it went most of the weekend without working (ie just going through the subs) but it's surprisingly worked all day today. i'm off wednesday so i think i'm just gonna pull my dash out and trace the wires to make sure they're good.

also i would think that if the wires were coming undone, it'd just be one and that'd only cause one speaker to be out, not all of them
