Amp/ fuse question
Saturday, May 27, 2006 4:23 PM
I recently bought a Pioneer 6200F 600w 4ch amp. the instruction booklet tells me that i should get this certain wire to hook up to the battery, that has two 30amp fuses on it. can i just get a 60 and call it a day? or do i have to buy this? also, right now i have an amp already hooked up and i believe its 8ga wire. is it safe to put this 60 fuse on it?

Hmmm... ya, i downloaded the user manual and it looks like it's just something to get you to buy more pioneer stuff.
I think you should be ok with just using one fuse, but I don't know weather or not to use a 30 or a 60, prolly a 60 though.
As far as the other one hooked up, are you getting rid of the other amp???
If so, you should be able to put the 60 fuse in and then hook up the new amp to that wiring.
Ask if you have any more questions.

You'll need a 60 off of the battery if that's the only amp you're running. Rule of thumb is add up the values of all the fuses, and run your main fuse to that amperage. Check the instructions; pioneer sometimes recommends a wire size, might be 4 gauge for that gem.

yea im just using that amp. the one i am using now is only a 2ch for the components. i'll check into it if i need the 4 gauge. if i do need to upgrade the wriring i guess i'll just pickup a fosgate pack.

thanks for the info guys.

alright, one last question. i just wanna make sure that i can use a ratchet on the battery terminals. i dont wanna go and touch the thing and get hit. i know its neg first, then pos. i just wanna make sure there isnt a certain tool i should use. out of all the times of working on my car, i have never been the one to touch the battery, usually my friend or someone does it so i have no idea.

Yes, just use a ratchet on the battery and just make sure to not hit it on anything metal and you'll be fine.
