I need new subs, Any advice?
Sunday, June 04, 2006 11:12 AM
Well as much as i love my Aplines, there just not enough for me. Maybe its because i went from having 2 15s in a Ext cab s-10 to 2 12's in a SUV. Either way, the fiancees system needs upgrading, so i thought we would throw mine in her car sence there brand new and id get some different ones.

I want something that just pounds. I want them to push the doors away from the frame. Any ideas?

So far im looking at

2 12in Rockford Power Stage 1's

2 12in Alpine Type X's

2 JL 12W7s

2 15in Alpine Type R's

2 15in Rockford Power Stage 1's

And quite possibly, if i feel like spending the money 2 12in or 15in Rockford Power Stage 2's

Out of those, what do you guys reccomend for the loudest bass, without getting rediculously sloppy. I still want some quality out of the speakers.

Thanks guys, im also open to any other suggestions.

How much are you looking to spend?

Are the alpines you have now ported or sealed? EVERYTHING depends on the install. It's all in the box.
There are alot of other sub options though.......alot better than the ones you listed.

Its sealed and honestly although it was a semi expensive q logic box, i should have had one built and ported. It prolly would make a difference.

What other options are there? Id like to keep it around 1200 max on the subs....i mean ill be happy spending half that, but if i have to spend some money on good subs than i will. Im happy with the Alpines, they are a great sub, and most people are impressed by the bass, and the crispness, but i love as much as bass as possible. I like pulling up to a store and having the windows up front vibrate...lol

RE XXX's. I know they're pretty expensive, and I havent seen the prices in a while. So 2 12s or 15s depending on how much they cost IMO.

on par? they have been insulted. a type r doesnt even compare. the w7 is the closest and i dont think they can touch a XXX especially the new ones. how bout a price range. dont say it doesnt matter because i dont think twice dropping 4 5 600 on a single woofer.

i was just saying that to let him know they werent some no name brand like I imagine he might have thought. I know not a lot of people have heard of RE. I cant personally say they're the BEST of that selection, the only sub in that list I've heard is a W7. I'm not a fan of JL audio at all though. I only mentioned the REs because I figured they were just as good if not better and that they would fit into the price range.

If you get away from the circuit city, best buy etc, and JL audio hype... RE is a major player. If you go to car audio specific forums its definetly one sub they talk about alot. And that 1200, it will be atleast that for 2 of the RE XXXs. Next chance you get call them up and ask on prices.

haha best buy and circuit city, there top brand is @!#$ Sony Xplodes....

Well after watching some videos of the XXX's and 12W7s, im def getting one of the other. The Rockford fosgates, for 699 a peice, def are not worth the money.

*sigh*

Try contacting a DEALER and you shal see that prices didnt go up as much as people first though. Only the direct prices dobled.

And yes...Re is very much a Big Player. Go look at some of the loudest vehicles in the world and count how many are runing RE MT's.

One 12 with enough power will probably be all he will ever need...lol. The box has got to be right though.

Hearing just how inefficient the new XXXs are, I hope he has the power to get them to perform. Just about everyone XXX owner that has posted online complains about the power-hungry nature of the new XXXs.

What about Adire (Brahmas), SoundSplinter (rl-ps), or Image Dynamics (IDQ, IDMax)? Or a single 15" CV Stroker Pro (again, needs alot of power to get the performance).

I'm just throwing those out there. I do loud, not SQ

The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

if you are looking into just plain stupid loud, look into DD, and IDMax wouldnt be a bad choice, L7s get pretty loud for a half decent price, Adire makes some damn loud subs, RE is a damn nice way to look, i realy would get the heIl away from JL, their whole god damed campaign is all about SQ, they do not build stuff geared twords just plain SPL numbers, they put a lot more R&D into sound quality....I myself and heavy into SQ, so I might not be the best to talk about subs that are all about the SPL, but i do know that Adire, DD and SS are good places to start

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I just bought a 20 inch widescreen ultrasharp flat pannel..I'm going to have to subscribe to the high quality porn places now......damn
