I have a 2000 Chevy Cavalier (Hot Pink) Z24 Convertible. Um this is my first time to this site and I have some questions. My boyfriend gave me his 250 watt rockford fosgate amplifier and a 10" WO3 JL Audio sub from his old car. I still have the factory stereo. Can I get away with leaving it in there or do i need a new head unit? Also my back speakers dont work except for once in a while when i hit a bump. He looked at the connections on the speakers but he says there fine and he knows how to do all this stuff except that he knows nothing about domestics. Id really appreciate any help or advice thanks!!
Yes you can do this without changing your head unit. All you need to do is get a hi-low convertor. Take the RCA cables from the amp to the convertor and use quick splices into the rear speaker wires on the back of your head unit. As for the back speakers not working unless you hit a bump, and the connection has been checked, then somewhere along that wiring it is not a good connection, that would be my assumption on that. You could get new speakers for the rear and put an amp to them as well, or follow the wiring for the speakers you have in there now and replace the wiring. I have a friend that is going through that right now.

First off all it could be the wireing. Not just the connectors
And sence when are the stereos different on domestics and imports? If he knows one he should know another....
Check walmart for the part you need if you want it quick. Or you can order it on crutchfield. Just taps into your wires and run the rcas
You can also get the convertor at Best Buy, and any audio shop in your area.
a line out converter is what everyone is recomended, and as stated above, they can be had just about anywhere that audio is sold. i dont want to rain on your parade, but i realy doubt your boyfriend knows as much about car audio as he may be leading on....but i definately think you will be happy with that W3!!! JL has great quality and great sounding subs.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.
I just bought a 20 inch widescreen ultrasharp flat pannel..I'm going to have to subscribe to the high quality porn places now......damn
its a w0 not a w3 ........she said w03 which is actually the w0v3 the new design jl subs
??? yeah .... considering the v3 stuff is JUST out, i highly doubt her boyfriend has already bought, used, and gave her any v3 stuff...... im assuming its an older W3 or W0 i will wait for the origional post maker to confirm this, not some random dude saying that W03 is not a type-o, it just means W0v3....(insert rolling eyes here)

maybe her boyfriend is a d-boy and he has money like that.....who knows....wasnt trying to be an ass but i was just trying to clarify what she said
well i highly doubt its a v3 anything, cuz like i said, the v3s JUST came out, and he wouldnt be tossing it aside already considering some authorized dealers barely have any v3 stuff yet

No he said he wishes it was a V3. Um ok thanks alot for the help he just hasnt even looked at mine yet because Im a freak about my car and I havent let him really take anything apart yet. I'll buy that converter because I dont want to spend the money for a new head unit yet. Thanks for the tips i'll post again if i have any more questions.
Well seeing what was said in your first post, you might want someone that actually knows what they are doing install the convertor. Your boyfriend might screw it up since he thinks that there is a difference between domestic audio wiring and japanese audio wiring.
only difference is the color of wires really...
Its gonna take a hell of an idiot to screw up a convertor install. All I'd do is cut the speaker wires to the back speakers and install with them.
OR she could just use scotch locks, or t-connects, or cut and splice, and all that, rather than just cutting them all together, scotch locks or t-connects would be the easiest way to do it... but in all honesty, it realy does sound like u would want someone with a lil more experience installing ur stuff.. im not trying to sound like a jerk here or anything, but ur boyfriend doesnt sound too knowledgebale at this point...

Install this the correct way, either splice/tape or solder. NO T-TAPS IN ANY CAR INSTALLATION, EVER. They tend to fall out, come apart and are uselss at that point. Make it more permanent. The worse feeling is when you have to take a radio out to re-do the wiring you did the week before because a t-tap fell apart.
Sam
Ban low-performance cars, not high-performance ones.
hmm funny i had t-taps on a LOC for over 2 years.... maybe u did it wrong? im offering the easiest way to install it, if she would like to cut, splice, solder, heat shrink, yeah its gunna be better and more permanent, but t-taps work just as well, its not a high current connection, and they will last just fine
