Hey! Long time since I have posted here, hope everyone is doing well.
Fortune has shawn on me and I have my third j-body (98 sunfire gt). I am moving my system from the old sunfire to the new(er) sunfire. On the old sunfire, there were no stock tweeters so I had mounted the tweeters right in front of the mids.
I'm looking for advice & input on how to mount the tweeters in the new car. Is it possible to put the new tweeters in the stock tweeter location? If I decide to mount the tweets elsewhere in the door, whats a good way to hide that stock speaker grill/tweeter in the corner of the door?
How do the aftermarket tweeters look when they are mounted in the stock location?
Any comments or suggestions are appriciated.
Tkz,
- Brandon

Yes they will fit, and easiest way for them to stay is with a bit of silicone sealant. This way, if you need to remove them again, its much easier and you wont damage them good tweets.
Cool, thanks for the quick reply El Fuego. Do you have to do any cutting or anything? The tweets I have have a grill on the front with the infinity logo. That looks a bit nicer then the little tripod thinger that are on the stock tweeters =)

Its fine, it will fit.
To remove the stock tweeters, there are 3 clips connecting the twweeter to the door. When you pry them back, they will most likely break. No worries. If for some reason you need to trim alittle excess plastic, go right a head. BTW, the tweeter grill has 2 little holes on the outside edge, and they line up to a little nub on the inside. When you remove the stock tweeter, that grill will have nothing to hold it in. So a litle silicone around the edge will work just fine.
Cool. I'll give it a try. I think the position of the stock tweet is probably the best location too. Thanks again =)

just make sure its the right size. .75 is what i used and you cant tell the difference betwen stock and upgraded
Hey,
Just one more question, looking at the door panel, the plastic cage on the panel that's preventing access to the tweeter; can that be removed, or do I have to cut it out?
Thanks,

There are three or four nuts holding the speaker cover on; they're on the back of the door panel. I think they are 10mm, but not entirely sure. You'll have to pull away some of the sound deadener on the panel to find all the nuts.
yup 10mm...just becareful not to break the plastic threads i broke most of mine
