Hi guys,
I just got the m3 style lights for my 2001 cav and have already mounted them, but I haven't wired them yet. I planned to splice into the wiring that goes directly into the bulb for the regular turn signal but when checking out the wires, there were 3 connected to the socket. They were red, black, and I think the other one was white though I forgot. I only have 2 wires from the mirror. Which 2 of the 3 wires do I splice into?
Thanks guys
My car has brown, black, and either light blue or dark blue (depending on what side you're on) wires going to the front signal lights. You'd want to tap into the blue ones for positive and black for ground (although it would be a lot less hassle to just ground the mirror to a bolt on the inside of the door)
Mine came with a diagram. There should be 3 wires coming from the mirror. One ground, one for the running lamps, and one for the turn signal.
got it wired up and like it... I have one last question though:
the turning lights blinks blue and the running lights sta on and are amber.... would it be safe to switch the running light wire with the blinking light wire? (ie: the blinker would be amber and the running light would be blue)
thanks again for all the help guys
you got the same mirrors i do...you don't want to use them as running lights. you just want them as turn signals to come on when your turn signal does. so just wire the orange light up to the blue wire.
wire them up behind the guage cluster. thats what i did and they work amazing and its easy. the hardest part would be running it through the rubber between the doors. but the two wires are dark blue and light blue. i dont remember which side is which. i will go check though.
i have mine spliced to my front turn signal bulbs. they work pretty good and yes the hardest part is getting it through that stupid rubber grommet. but it's not that hard and once everything works it's great. i would suggest doing it behind the bulbs because it's easier than taking your whole dash apart to get behind the cluster.
you could just go pick up a haynes manual it has wiring diagrams in the back of the book
haha def agreed with that f#@% books ahaha
