How do you guys fit speakers in a 2000 sunfire

The 2000 Sunfire is the worse car I have ever done an install in...first I had to go all the way into the ignition column to get the ACC wire which wasnt that bad. So then I finally have the amp and everything connected....then i Decided to put in 2 Sony 6x9 Xplode 24- watt speakers in the back...welll guess what it doesnt fit..so no big deal i take it back and exchange it for kenwood 6x9's a little smaller it fits but not all the way so I drill some holes and screw it in...but it didnt screw in all the way because it didnt fit in all the way so i turn on my system to test it out...now i hear a thumping sound which I guess is from it not fitting flush. So i do a little research and find out the mounting dept is only 2 1/2 ...so now im thinking I should get the dremel out and adjust that 2 1/2...anyone had any similar problems?

well simple, either you get some 6x8"s which fit perfectly, or you use the plastic adapter that came with the stock speakers.

Well if you want to put 6.5" speakers in the front as opposed to the 4x6"s that come stock, thats a whole nother story.

Also, you do know there was an easier way to get power to the deck then fishing in the column. Just tap the wiper fuse in the driver side fuse box.

I have 2 xPlod 6x9's in the rear. I have them mounted on the plastic surrounds from the stock speakers. The only problem that I have is the torsion bar for the trunk lid, driver's side sits a tad bit too close to the magnet, but nothing a piece of foam tape didn't fix.
