i was wondering when i set my amp with the multimeter i set it to ac but the one that i got has a 500 and a 200 and i was wondering do i set it to the 500 or the 200?

200 and then if u get an overload reading, change it to 500 but you should be fine with 200.
It's just the setting for how high the multimeter will read so if it's like most, the 200 will read up to 200 volts ac and the 500 will do 500 volts ac.
Same with like dc voltage. If you have it on like a 10 setting it will read up to 10 volts and if u have it on say 20, it'll read up to 20.

you should always start at the high setting and work your way down.

if it is a DMM (digital multimeter) then it will just give you and error if it is over the reading. if it is annalog, the needle will pin and you can damage the meter if the level of the output is higher than what the meter is set to.

if it is digital, like i said, nothing will happen, but you should be in the habbit of always setting it high and lowering the meter.

If he's checking voltage for the amps, with his amp, shouldn't be over 30ish volts.
