Power and ground wire question for my monitors
Tuesday, July 04, 2006 6:30 PM
Okay, I have two monitors that have 12v cig. adaptors on them. I cut the the adaptor parts off and now i have to wire ends, but both the wires are black. The one wire has some writing on it, but does not say whether its power or ground. Should I add a fuse to each wire coming from the monitor then test it? And, if the fuses blow just reverse the wires?

Got a meter? Plug in the cigarette adapter and test what's left of the wires.

Yep.
If it reads a negative value then the power/ground needs to be switched.

Are you sure it'll work detached from the cig lighter? Maybe the lighter plug dropped down the voltage or something. Shoulda just wired in 2 females under the dash and connected them.
