Put bars of 3/4" cast iron across the subs and secure them down with locking wheel nuts. Do the same with the box.

ummm that sounds like a retarded idea... OR he could do what a lot of guys do to secure them for theft, driving, accidents... bolt the box to the floor from inside the box.
although i still say razor blades across the back of the box would be nice

also.. other than getting an alarm system, try not to play ur stereo real loud in populated places or around areas u plan on parking for longer than a minute

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

But if they had enough time to unscrew the subs, why would they need the box? And if they wanted it, they would be able to unbolt it because the subs were out of the way and in their possession.

Hense, 3/4" cast iron bars and locking lugs

Slackers. I welded my box in. and my subs themselves are rivited in, as opposed to screws.

you must not live in america....haha. i've had my subs stolen out of 3 different cars. i don't live in a necessarily bad area either.

i opted for the bolt down method. took two L-brackets and mounted it to the floor with self tapping screws. they won't have enough time to unbolt them, my dog goes nuts when someone farts loud down the street and my alarm goes off when the stupid cats crawl on the car.

a good alarm system and the average brain of someone who is going to try and steal shlt says they wont have time to unscrew some subs and then also unbolt the box.... if they can just rip it out and run with it, they wont waist their time... and if you dont have an alarm and run around town with ur music blasting... oh well dipshlt, stop showing off...also, box welded and subs riveted??? yeah that sounds right... sounds like it makes a lot of sense... how did u weld wood to carpet btw ??? metal box and no trunk carpet? werent u one of the people getting on my case about an attitude in another thread? my past boxes have been built in the car and weere impossible to take out in one piece or at least with out have to take out all the seats. Get yourself some L brackets as said before and use square headed screws, I doubt the thugs carry around a square headed screw drivers.

Use screws with an uncommon head, i.e., torx bits or even one-way flat head screws.

darn man common sense would have told you how it works.

I live in New york. It doesn't matter if you have an alarm, its very easy to disable them.

Oh and you don't know how to secure a box with welding?

Simple, before you finish you box, In each camber drill a hole, dead center, what ever size you want, I have 1/2". Now align that hole to where your placing the box. Mark hole on carpet. Now drill through carpet, through steel till you go all the way through. Now realign box with hole in floor.

Do you still follow, or are the directions too difficult?

With box realigned, have steel plate same size as box floor, per chamber, drill hole to match if you already haven't done so. Now take a solid steel rod, I used threaded, its your choice, and place inside hole aligned with metal plate. Now weld rod in place.

Since i used the threaded rods you can get at most hardware stores, all i did was put a nut on end of rod, to where i wanted and welded nut to steel plate and nut to rod. When replaced into box, rod will stick out below car. Now weld rod to bottom of car. Now you cant remove box. Finish up box, and then just rivet subs into box after you finish your connections, and recheck connections.

If done correctly, When bass is on, metal plate will not rattle at all within the box, and box will not move.

wow glad i dont live in a place where i would have to go through all that to secure my box down,... then again i dont run around town blasting my music for all to hear... and i wouldnt wanna live around stuck up morons like you anyway, and RIVETS?? to hold ur subs in??? explain to me what kind of rivets go thought ur subs AND 3/4 MDF and hold an air tight seal... sorry im realy trying hard not to be a jerk when i talk in these forums cuz some people seem to get all pissy and whine about it... but its annoying (and i mean this in a striclty factual way, not an arrogent one), when i actualy know wtf im talking about with anything i give advice on, and being talked down to by someone on this matter...honestly, if people are breaking into ur car to steal stuff from the trunk that they cant see outside the car... maybe you might wanna TURN IT DOWN WHEN UR DRIVING THROUGH THE CITY WHERE U PLAN ON PARKING THE CAR FOR MORE THAN A MINUTE.... then again, you seem to be the king of common sense here... steel plates to hold ur box down and riveting the subs in and all excited about using roofing sealant for sound deadener.... *this is where i roll my eyes*

I'm not getting in this argument but... he did say that he thought the dude that put his speakers in made an extra key which would explain why even if he doesn't play it loud so people know he has it, that someone knew it was in there.

But anyways... My subs will be screwed into the enclosure but then will be chained from inside the box to the back of the box where they'll be padlocked to tabs on the car and the tabs, locks and ends of the chains will be between two pieces of mdf that are seperating/blocking up my trunk. The enclosure will be clasped and locked to the front piece of mdf and will only be able to come out by removing the back piece of MDF and getting to the lock and clasp.
If they try to take out the sub, it will be chained to the car and not be able to move out of the enclosure. If they try to take the enclosure and sub, the enclosure will be locked to the car.
That may be, and most likely is, complete overkill, but the design of my enclosure makes it really easy to do so I'm doing it.

i guess you never been out of your perfect little state. In new york, you dont need to blast any type of music to get your stuff noticed. Just buying the stuff will have people following you. Besides, i listen to mostly classical music except for the shows.

Do you know how a rivit works? And you know that all you gotta do is go to HD or lowes and you can buy rivets up to 4" long. And you do know there are holes around the sub, where the screws are supposed to go. Drill the holes all the way through the MDF. And stick the rivet into the new hole, and use a rivit gun to secure it. Now if you drilled a hole just bigger then the rivet, When it secures, it will be an ALMOST perfect sealed job, and a little dab of silcone does wonders for the rest.

Besides, if you looked through my windows, you wont see my gear. But if i turned up more then 10 on the HU, you will feel it. If you tint your windows here, it means your hiding something, then i must be worth stealing. You have an alarm, its just another reason to find out what can be stolen.

Oh and the roof sealent thing. You love dynamat right? Holly high hell it has the same specs, as roof sealant, and its parent company Uses the same material to seal roofs? Go figure?

Ive used DM before and you still get a heavy tar smell, But the grace stuff, barely smells at all. Even in direct sun with all the windows and doors closed in 95+ degree temps with 90% humidity.

Im not getting pissy at you. You just have a small town idea of how a big world works. And your grasping at straws to understand. You state, is slow and laid back. Unlike NY, where if you have a rocket powered car, youd still be way to slow to keep up.

i use L brackets to hold my box down. Nothing like your mom walking out on someone while they're in your trunk. Hahaha poor kid didnt know what to do. Worst part was I knew him and know where he lives. Also how was he gonna ride off on his bike and take 3 12" type r's in a box. Crazy people ne more. cannot have anything or pretty much trust anyone.

there used to be a shop in London where the installer would go through all ur @!#$ in ur car trying to find a address and a week or 2 later your brand new stuff was stolen
i dont bother screwing my box down and ive never ahd a problem in the last 3+years(knock on wood) what i hear alot is if u make it to hard to steal they will just put a screwdriver threw ur subs and smash ur deck etc....

What I plan on doing is using large L brackets which will be bolted to the floor but not to the box. Since the brackets will be approx. 4" it will be impossible to lift the box over the brackets so it won't be necessary to bolt the bracket to the box. I'll be securing the L brackets through my spare tire cover that will a piece of sheet metal on the other side to prevent theives from ripping the brackets off. Of course I'll be using some sort of torx head screws to ensure that thieves are caught off guard. I'll be doing the same with my amp as well.

So why cant someone just bend the brackets down?

Edit:

And the spare tire is cardboard. A thin sheet a sheet metal wont be much of a reinforcement.

the best way to save your stereo is send birthday and christmas cards to your insurance agent and they might wave your deductible
