8 inch subwoofer set up
Monday, July 17, 2006 4:37 PM
I'm looking for a good set of 8 or 10 inch DVC subwoofers, a good amp, and a box. Trunk space is crucial since I have to be able to fit golf clubs in my trunk. My budget is $500 for everything and i'm willing to splurge a little if need be.

any help is appreciated.

thanks

Any specific brand?

Because there are some decent sub setups that already include everything.

Example: Visonik , is ok if your not looking for major great brand, but still a bit of bump. $149.99

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3115.html

Or even an Infinity Basslink. Its a self enclosed amp and 10" sub with a 10" passive radiator that takes up less then 1 square foot of space. Class D 200-watt amplifier. Just about $200

BTW, do a search here, Myself and i believe Brown Eye have the Basslink. It sounds great in our cars, and you can even feel the vibrations in the seats.

i hear you on the clubs, i built my box around my clubs, right now its a single 12 ported but I am contemplating going with both 12s and either a sealed or another ported enclosure, but space is limited due to the clubs and the vert.

as far as 8s go. the best setup with 8s ( 4 of them though) i have heard is definitely james trunklid killers

I'm not looking at any brand specifically. I'm just looking for a good sounding set of sub woofers. Obviously i'm looking for SQ and don't really care about SPL.

El Fuago... go die... infinity basslink and VISONIK PACKAGE DEAL FLEA MARKET PEP BOYS CRAP?!?!?!? honestly... you try so hard to look smart and act like u know what the hell ur talking about in this forum and just proved urself WRONG

now for the OP of this thread...i would have to ask this first like any other thread asking for recomendations... whats ur goal for the sound??? more boom than music? or just leveling out the music and having the subs pick up the low end like theyre supposed to.. SQ being a huge deal to me, my first instinct on ur budget would be to recomend a pair of eD 11Kv.2's sealed... honestly... very minimal space requirements, and GREAT sounding subs..eD builds boxes to specs, or also just shoot and e mail to JD at soundsthatpound.com (just click on contact us). looking for box, pair of subs and amp under 500? look into directed, orion, viper, ppi amps(all made by DEI) on ikesound.com... they always got great deals on refurbs, check e bay often for refurb cadence and DEI amps as well... Soundstream is another good consideration for solid reliable power on a budget..

send me a PM if interested in the special forum pricing that jbody.org is included in. We also build the boxes if needed. We have a CNC machine that cuts the wood then every joint is hand sanded and put together.

We can get you a quote on a box no problem, just have the max measurements you are looking at.

awww Alex once again hooking up JBO with the famous ICIX discount... i dont see JBO listed on the forums included though lol....

NOT TO STEAL ANY BUSINESS,... but i hate only throwing out one option.. although eD most likely going to be the best SQ for the price range ur looking for... check out the AA Asassins too... very affordable woofer made by one of the most reputable manufacturers out there now.

And one more thing for you, Mr El Fago....even after he says hes looking for good SQ you say "well what i recomended fits still".(no surprise from someone who ran a basslink and a pair of 10s in their trunk...).. you recomended flea market junk and think it fits his needs for SQ? STOP POSTING...YOU HAVE A HORRIBLE CASE OF DIARRHEA OF THE MOUTH SERIOUSLY. NOTHING YOU SAY HELPS, NOTHING YOU SAY IS SMART,NOTHING YOU SAY IS TRUE!

I realy hope no one has taken his advice in the forum... lord help them if they have!..

Yeah i know, Im working on getting the Jbody.org listed. Its listed on one of the forum duscount pages, but not the one with the "good" prices. It will still work for all you guys.

Thats completely understandable, not every solution works for everyone, people need options, and as for the Ascendant Audio Asassins, thats a good recommendation, I havent had a chance to listen to them, but I have listened to a few Avalanches in my days. Nice subs for the money.

Basslink isnt sold at pepboys. Any real audio person could have told you that. So why do you hate the basslink so much?

And how id i just prove myself wrong?

I think you guys are retarded, My set up, if you wish in that pic was well over a year old. Yes i had the basslink 8 months ago, still in my garage. So why didnt you show the other pics i have left here in the last 6 months?

I am running over 2k and as i said in the past. But not with 10"s. On a term-pro meter, I had hit less with the more powerful sub setup, running 4 12"s it a proper sized enclosure, both ported and sealed.
Then the 4 10"s running only 1K rms. This is why i went back to Infinity subs. So i dont give a flying fruck if you dont like it. The meter proved it.

And i know your gonna have a problem with that. I have used 2 Enclosures in 5 months, Both tuned to 35 hz with recommended airspace per manufacturers recommendation.

LOL. The questions you ask make me think your a newbie on these forums. Why Infinity? Do a search. Why do i hang from their nuts so much, Do a search.

Have you ever actaully had any experiance with infinity? You do know they are under rated as per power goes. You can easily run 800+ watts rms out of their 250w rms subs, with no damage, and it will still sound clear. Its a quality thing that i guess you will never understand. I i even do mean blasting the music, they dont smoke, they dont distort, I even have a hole through the dust cone on one of my old subs, and overpowered, and still no distortion, no burning smells, No clipping etc. I have used other brands before the Whole main reason i use infinity thing, But never really liked any others. They all sounded about the same, SPL, was nearly the same, but if you even sightly overpower an Alpine, kenwood, boston, chronic audio, DB, cdt, Aphlasonic, crapbahn, etc, you will destroy them.

I really hate to interupt but, a very good friend of mine has some infinity subs, he likes the sound, I personally think they sound like trash. For what he spent on those things he could have gotten much better subs. Hell I would rather take my generics over infinity subs. Not to mention telling that poor guy that visoinc is decent for what he is wanting to spend? Visonic is just a pathetic excuse for @!#$. The kid would be better off going with Audiobahn than visonic, at least he would have some thump and a bunch more reliability. Do not get me wrong, I would NEVER advise someone to get Audiobahn anything. El F'd up, next time give some recommendations that you would do on that budget. Jesus Christ, the kid was asking for advice, you tell him to basically throw his money in the garbage, what a f'ing jerk off.

LOL, though i do not like visoniks And crapbahn, If you want something that works well for little money, it will work, for about 6 months. Most people here are only giving him recommendations on subs, that they know little about. You go by hearsay. I dont. However $500 for a box and sub and amp and all the wires and such, Wont get you much either. Might as well give him a pioneer crap, Or DHD, Or chronic.

So unless you can actually put your 2 cents in, STFU.

Re: 8 inch subwoofer set up

SQ on a budget eh?
Take a look at Elemental and AA. They make good inexpensive stuff. I also suggest looking at Dayton and Adire for SQ subwoofers on the reasonably cheap. Dayton Titanics are great SQ subs. Adire Kodas and Shivas have a great rep for a reason, and they're pretty cheap for what you get.

If you're looking for cheap amps, look into Hifonics. The Brutus line is fairly good, and they're cheap.

If you can help it, stay away from Visonik, or any brand that tries to mimic the name of a mainstream brand (like rockwood). Reliability just won't be there, unless you're rediculously lucky, and chances are good that you won't get the SQ you're looking for.

El Feugo - I really don't know what to think of you these days. Seeing you put Pioneer in with garbage like DHD and chronic only shows me that you haven't got the first clue about car audio. Pioneer makes some of the best HU that money can buy. Period. They also have the loudest vehicle on the planet, own several world records, and their speaker lines more than compete with anything any other company makes. Including Infinity.

you two, el fuego and JL are both talking about things you dont understand.

the brand doesnt make the noise, the woofer does!

a properly tuned, properly built system that is built with a low budget will out perform any big name brand that is just slapped together.

i give you guys respect in that you both have a good grasp of the subject and a wealth of knowledge, but i dont know if you guys recall that i am running Visonik and Acoustic Research of of a MA Audio amp. all three are budget brands by most peoples opinions. my system has been running alot longer than 6 months (over a year and a half now) and is probably the one of best balances of db and sq that any of you will ever hear.

im not saying mine is a ground pounder, or that its going to win any sq awards. i have spent less than $300 CDN on this system and am very pleased with it. if you wanna have a listen and live in the GTA, just make your way to Newmarket and i will oblige you with a listening.

basically, this forum turns into what every other forum about system building turns into. its now a what brand sucks and who has the biggest @!#$ in the trunk.

my system was built properly by someone i trust with the tools to do the job right. the first thing he said to me when i told him i wanted a system was to go have a listen to his truck. i was surprised at how good it sounded. he knew i wanted some good SQ, but at the same time some Db, so he built a box so perfectly that if i were to run it on a more powerful amp, i could say goodbye to my bandpass visonik.

big brands only get you so far. lots of power only gets you so loud. knowing what you are doing gets you farther then your friends who have spent 10 times more than you ever will.

thats my rant, now let the bitching continue.

Last i looked, i wasnt refering to your set up, We were talking about the premade box/amp/subs from pepboys. Which is the lowest quality of Visonik.

I dont know about you, But pioneer makes more then just HU. I have seen more then a few just burn up, or have other significate issues. I have used Pioneer Premier crap in the past. Nothing But problems. I guess when you have all the major audio gods working for your company, of coarse there cars will come out perfect, becuase they will fix there own stuff befor eit reaches their cars. And I belive ALPINE is the leader in HU for the last few years to say the least.

Oh, and hifonics? Last year i made a post about getting the brutus amp, and all the great audio gods on this forum said no, they are crap. But now you say they are good. MAKE UP YOU FLUCKING MINDS.

El Fuago... i dont constantly change my mind (accept on Alpine decks, this years models are less than a shadow of what alpine offered in the past unfortunately )

Goose... why dont you pay attention to anything OTHER THAN THE BS IN THIS THREAD that i have ever posted before you tell me I dont have a grasp on car audio knowledge... dont YOU ever insult me, i never gave information on anything i wasnt sure of, never recomended anything i dont have personal experience with, and i dont group brands together and say everything they make is junk... SQ has ALWAYS been my major concern in everything i do, sell, install, or buy for myself...im not going to get into an internet pissing contest, but im not gunna say someone running Visonik is going to sound better than someone running a world renouned manufacturer that has spent their entire existance dedicated to quality, SQ, and over all perfectiong, such as JL, eD, Adire, AA, or ID....dont ever compair ANYTHING Visonik makes to ANYTHING these manufacturers make... im not getting into the nitty gritty details of everything that is box building, tuning, placement, imaging, eq'ing, amping, adjusting, this that and the other thing, when people ask questions strictly referring to the sound and quality of certain GEAR, asking for info on specific products has nothing to do with the little factors that refine a system... dont get all big headed tool bag, i dont have time for it...wow, as much as El Fuago gets on my nerves... i seriously am ranting in this forum at someone else for a change... you need to not try and talk like you are all high and mighty... and not to sound stuck up or big headed but I KNOW what im talking about when i give advice, and i KNOW who the other people are in this forum that are the same way... you sir, just proved that you are not one of them...

and on a budget, i will say the ONLY thing you said that i or anyone could agree on is this... on a budget MA makes SOME decent amps (their HK series to be exact)

Now is everyone done jacking threads to make them selves look dumb while trying to act smart? honestly, im sick of it, and i know for a fact others avoid this forum because of it so SHUT THE FUK UP FOR ONCE AND LET PEOPLE GET THEIR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
