Hey, I just had a quick question. I just got two Polk Audio DB100 Tweeters. I have a MTX 4-Channel amp with built in crossovers. Do I need to get a separate crossover for the tweeters, or can I just splice them with my front speakers coming from my amp? Thanks for the help guys!
High pass crossovers on most amps are only there to filter low bass and will only go up to around 200hz or so and is not high enough for tweeters. Your tweeters may come with a capacitor built in for a crossover, if not you could add one to filter out the midrange and below. As far as just splicing them in I don't know if I'd do that. I have some Street Edge tweets from Memphis Audio only rated at 20w rms that I run off the head unit and have them faded out so that it give just a LITTLE more front imaging. This works fine for me even though it probable isn't the best considering hu amps aren't the cleanest, but I keep the level down on them for the most part since as I stated before it's just for a little more up front presence.
