How big of a cap for my 500 watts
none.
But if you really insist on wasting money just to have a cap, then a 0.5 farad cap for 500 watts.
none
caps are useless they actually hurt your electrical system its an overpriced voltage meter.
what do you suggest for my dimming issues in the car. I got a optima red top and new alternator
Have you done the big 3 upgrade?

if you have dimmin with only 500 watt's something else is wronge
well what could be the problem? interior lights dim radio blinks
what gauge wires are you using for your power wire and ground? Did you use crimp terminals? did you ever have dimming lights or HU prior to this?
Mono or stereo set up on the amp? What is your gain set at?

i think it was 8 gauge wire and only crimps i needed were for my harness for my hu
i had an easy fix for mine. i just added another ground wire to my battery. i have a 4-gauge wire from my negative terminal to a ground point about 1.5 feet under the battery, close to the frame. no dims now.

Never had any dimming until my amp and hu went in. Gains set equal i have a 4 channel jus running my 2 subs.
dont use 8 gauge wire on amps always always use 4 gauge.... unless over 1000 watts. then use 1 gauge.

What kinda rule is that?? I'm not saying going really big is bad..there are advantages...but...1 guage for 1000 watts as a rule is some overkill right there, i think 4 guage for 1000watts is sufficient...for a 500watt (im assuming thats the max rating) amp 8 guage would be fine...

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.
LOL

where is this dimming coming from then?
i jus moved my ground from the amp yesterday and its right to the chasis on the car....
your 8 gauge should be fine. I bet you dont even have a four gauge input on your amp do you?
4 gauge would not fit my amp
Check my sticky on how to set sub gains - you could be overpowering something which will draw a lot of current.
so i drove last night with the amp subs. First time driving at night with this set-up and on occasion when i hit my brakes to come to a stop my headlights would dim and then go back to normal. wtf is going on here im at a loss.
Simple, you have a power loss somewhere. Usually thats a GROUND wire or Connection.
i wish i knew where this problem was my ground from my amp is right on the chassis behind the panels of the back seat. I dont have a back seat anymore and have those panels out.

Did you remove the paint to where your amp ground is connected?
Have you checked any of the dozen or so other grounds in the car? Like the one going to the battery?
no paint for the ground of the amp.
maybe i got a bad serpentine belt? my a/c doesnt work that great
