Crappy/muddy sound coming from fronts?
Friday, July 28, 2006 3:00 PM
Hey all,

So I finished my install and everything sounded great until I put my door panels back on. Now everything sounds buzzy muddy and ... well like crap. I used Infinity 6.5" components with 1/2" particle board as suggested. I think the speakers might be touching the grill on the door panel.

It sounds actually much worse then the factory speakers (especially at lower volumes), and I have to crank the crossover way up to get it to sound reasonable. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you get around it?

I have the tweeters mounted in the factory tweeter location of my 98 sunfire gt, so i dont know if cutting out that section would be an option.

Thanks,
- Brandon

Are they amp'ed? Check your wiring make sure everything is correct. If you used a 1/2 template the speakers should not be touching, I am using 3/4 inch and also infinity's no problems.

Yep, they're amped. The wiring is fine, like I said it sounds great without the door pannels. I'm wondering if the template I'm using is touching perhaps??

well if it sounds good without the panel and crap with the panel you know that the problem really isnt the speakers or setup of the speakers, but an issue with the door. i'd think your either vibrating the surround of the speaker on the panel or the resonance of the speakers is causing the panel to vibrate causing a bad sound. fix to that would be to add some damping sheets to the back of yoru door panel or really anything with weight.

That's what I was thinking sndsgood,

I've ordered a couple 4x6 brackets that are much thinner then what I'm using now. If that doesn't work, I'll resort to sound deadening. But honestly, I think it's the surround of the speaker vibrating on the panel. I'll let you all know how it goes.
