New System in the Works

Trying to get the Cavalier ready for IASCA finals so I'm having the system reworked by Jeff Smith of Audio Designs Atlanta. We're going to rebuild the trunk using the spare tire well to house 2 IDQ12D4 V.2 in a 2 cu ft sealed enclosure firing up into the trunk. The front stage will consist of the new Hybrid Audio Legatia 3" drivers in custom made vented kicks with the L1 tweeters in custom pods in the A-pillars. Mid-bass will be handled by a pair of MB Quart QSD 6.5" mid-bass drivers in custom door pods.

The system will be powered by 2 new Zapco DC Reference amplifiers. The DC650.6 will power the mids and tweets with about 90w RMS per channel and the mid bass at 180w RMS per channel. The IDQ's will be powered by a DC750.2
which benches out at 980w RMS when bridged @ 4ohms.

The HU will be the new Alpine DVA-9681 with the 1/2 din Zapco digital remote controlled mounted in the dash. The end result will be a fully balanced 18v digital active set-up with DSP, full time alignment capability, and 80 bands of digitally controlled parametric equalization.

As soon as I can get some build pics I'll post them here. Right now the car is in pieces at Jeff's shop. I will roll it out at the IASCA show Sept. 2nd in Dawsonville, GA. The next stop is the IASCA/NOPI World Finals in Atlanta Sept 16th - 17th.

For those of you in close proximity of the Atlanta area you need to go buy Jeff's shop in Stockbridge, GA. He does awesome work!!

good luck and get some pics up when your done. only worry i have is ive seen allot of guys decide to rebuild their setup right before finals and it doesnt always come out the best. if a system was good enough to get you invited to finals just tweak it out.

I know what you mean, but this new set-up will be a substantial improvement. I was running a passive set-up with a 13 band graphic EQ in the HU and had no control over the frequencies below 50hz and above 12khz and it would kill me on the RTA. Plus the silk dome tweeters in the kicks were causing me some rainbow effect and they would barely show up at 20khz on the RTA. This new set-up will give me total control over the soundstage and add more height, width, and depth. With Jeff Smith and Scott Buwalda doing the tuning I can't help but think it a drastic change for the better.
