01 Cavalier Radio Swap!!!

Ok, if someone could please help me out, I've got a 2001 Cavalier and the CD player crapped out on me. I've got a new deck coming, and I've done plenty of hard-wire installs, but never on these cars. SO I'm wondering if anyone's got the FYI on the wiring diagram inside the dash for a smooth install. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

Save yourself the headache and buy the $15 harness adaptor.

Its not that difficult if you have the diagram of the new harness. Is it an aftermarket deck? If so, like Alpine..they should have the colors/functions diagram in the user manual. If not, Google for it. Then the best way to find what wires control which speakers get a battery (the kind that you would put in a tv remote). Usually the wire colors will be together (i.e. green/dark green - blue/dark blue - gray/dark grey). Keep in mind these are coming from you dash, not the radio. Touch the wires to the batter and listen for the speaker to pop...presto!

Now, for the power, ground, lim, etc thats were it gets tricky. I cant remember which is which, but goto www.the12volt.com and they have a diagram of most on there. I believe our cars match right to it.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much. Yea, I'm putting in a Pioneer. Just something until I can scrape the money together for a high quality deck....but no monitors!!!

The top dash pad, and the front trim bezel... no. The wheel does not have to come off.

If you take the entire dash assembly out... which includes the lower part of the dash and wraps around the base of the windshield... then yes, you take the steering wheel off.
