can i use a pneumatic airgun with my compressor to build subwoofer boxes like i see shops use all the time...or is that much weaker than using the traditional pre-drill and use coarse thread screws? i would think id have to use more...but using a nailgun will speed things up IMMENSLY... just curious if anyone has experience with it..

I personally wouldnt use either nails or staples.
Biggest problem i find them is that if you miss, and split the MDF your screwed, or if your lucky enouugh to not crack it, then it just looks like @!#$ with a nail jutting out.
Staples, are not big enough.
A big reason to use screws is vibrations wont let them wiggle free. And best off all you can back them on with the screw gun....
We use brad nails and wood glue on all of our customers boxes. It looks better. And take some mdf that is glued together, try to break it, the wood will break before the glue joint. Take some wood that is screwed and siliconed together, try breaking that, you will break the screw and split the joint open.
Check out those links for pictures on boxes built with brad nails and glue.
Looks way better than screws in my eyes.

Personally it depends on who's garage im using.
In my own garage, i dont have a compressor, so i use screws and wood glue.
In my dads garage, ill use brads and wood glue.

Looks better? Do you just leave bare wood for the finish? You shouldnt be able to see the screws or the brad nails.
And yes your right the glue will hold. However, thats why most of us use Screws AND Wood Glue. Brad nails do not hold as good as screws...I could care less though...i just meant don't go using a 3 in nail in a Air gun....
The box is sick looking, i just dont care what the brad nails look like as no one will see them.
Basically, lay the glue down on the edge and fasten however you want. The glue is what holds the box together, not the screws or nails---they are used to hold it while the glue dries. Carpet and enjoy!

Ban low-performance cars, not high-performance ones.
most of our customers order the boxes bare MDF, so we try to create as seamless of a look as possible. we do carpet and we offer a sprayed on coating similar to a bed liner. But we send them out bare MDF most of the time.
As for the screws over brad nails. we stay away from screws as its a less consistant look. and like Sam said. the nails and screws are there to hold till the glue dries.
Ive seen someone hammer together a box with actual framing nails. hahaha.

They do look really really nice, do you have a website?

You can click on products, then enclosures. You can choose custom sealed or ported and design your own with your max dimensions and the tuning you want. You can choose the spec. boxes we have listed. Or you can give us a call. We can do anything.
We also make rings with rabbited edges, for doing fiberglass jobs.

Sam said it... whatever is most convienient to you realy, its the wood glue that holds the box together, the screws, nails, whatever is there to hold it all together while the glue dries
On the other hand....you have other fingers.
I just bought a 20 inch widescreen ultrasharp flat pannel..I'm going to have to subscribe to the high quality porn places now......damn
thanks but i cant seem to find an options for 12s
we car audio guys are too lazy to use clamps and wait for @!#$ to dry like Norm Abram. So that's why we use screws or nails.
I personally prefer 2" nails over screws. Drywall screws aren't that strong anyway,

We just uploaded our new website last night.

You can design the enclosure you want, just choose a 13kv2 or 13ov2 when designing the box. that way we know its for a 12"

hey i have four corner clamps lol.
see my box was built with wood glue and clamps. the nails and screws dont do anything but hold it together. when you clamp, you will get a tighter seal in between the pieces of wood and less of a chance of a leak or anything like that.
personally, i prefer the clamps. even if i was going to screw the box or nail it while the glue dried i would still clamp it after so it gets a better seal.
Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!
^^^^ Ditto. We just got a compressor and I'm thinking about building a box just to try out using brad nails.

Look for one that will use nails and staples both. 2" is preferable.
